    The Hungarians will settle for any kind of win tonight and I don't think they'll use too much energy to crush Germany. They don't have to and I think they'll just handle this game with ease. After a poor start, Germany did alright against Serbia and Spain. The last -3 may be a bit misleading as they were only a goal behind with only 2 minutes to go. Hungary have covered this handicap in only 11 out of last 47 games, only 4 times against European teams. However, we shouldn't count in UK who are huge outsiders there. Two times 9-3 (Greece and Germany last year) and 14-8 against Spain at the Olympic. The Germans have failed to cover this spread in only 3 out of 27 games. Apart from this game against Hungary, the only teams to beat them by a convincing margin are Serbia and Montenegro. No one in the last 19 games. Ahead of this EC, these two teams played a friendly and Hungary won by 10-8. Details

    We must congratulate Mladenovic for getting to the semifinal, but here is where her story ends. She was good on first serves, but not quite impressive. She lost her serve on quite a few occasions, and made it to the semifinal mostly through mistakes by her opponents, something Wozniacki will not do. She has confidence on her serve and excellent results against players with a style similar to Mladenovic's. The reason is her smart game where wide shots force tall players to move a lot, making it impossible for them to dictate the tempo of the game. Added to that is her truly excellent return, and Mladenovic no longer has a foothold in this match. Apart from that, Mladenovic regularly gifts her opponents quite a few double faults. Caroline beat Pliskova with a bigger lead, and with all due respect to the French player, Pliskova has both a better serve and a better forehand. Wozniacki already beat her in Monterery with a five games lead, which would be a returned stake on this bet, but she is in much better form now, and I'm convinced you'll be able to count the games Mladenovic wins by the fingers on one hand.     I know betting against the champion seems unreasonable, but if there is a place and time where Basel might fumble, then it is today, in Aarau. They always seem to get extra strength on home ground, and we know from history they are especially motivated when hosting one of the big teams.
    Apart from the good odds, the reason for this bet is also the fact that Basel got through most of their preparations without five of their players who were in the national team, as friendly matches showed (Sparta Prag 0-4, Schaffhausen 1-2), and they are far from the desired level with regards of how tuned up they are.
    Aarau on the other hand did not have problems of that nature, they also put together their team on the move, but had a full roster most of the time, and could remain undefeated today with some luck. Naturally, one should not overdo it with the stakes, as it's still Basel they're facing, a team commanding some respect regardless of their state. Details

    Espinosa's style of tennis does not agree with Barthel at all. The German is aggressive, Espinosa absorbs shots well, and this surface suits Espinoza better. Barthel struggled against this style of tennis in the first two rounds as well. Espinoza on the other hand beat all three aggressive opponent, she has the game for this surface, and for such an opponent as well. Goerges collapsed after a few fumbles, Barthel is not much better in that respect and I cannot picture Barthel performing on a high level consistently, it's just not her strong suit. This is at best a 50/50 clash, but I'd give Espinoza an edge after all we've seen here do here, and because of the surface, which means these odds don't match the situation at all. Details

    The majority of info was stated in the preview, so I'll just sum up briefly. Lithuania seem horrible, and the reason behind it is the conflict between players, and with things in context it's no wonder they lost their chances to get a medal. After a great first round, they started cracking up in the second, lost against Spain, had problems winning against Slovenia, were devastated against Serbia and Turkey. Israel can be very unpleasant with their 2-3 zone defense, and forcing Serbia to play two extra periods only lifted their already high confidence. They won the matches they had to in this tournament (Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy), and played even matches with everyone else, including France and Turkey against whom they lost by double digits. Israel are a better team at the moment, and these odds have quite some value. Details
