Hats off to McGee for what he's done here in San Luis, but I think Pella will beat him. That's because Pella's playing really well. He only had problems against the first seed Gabashvili where he lost a set, but he crushed Garza, Krajicek, and even Duckworth who's playing the best tennis of his career. Even his results in the previous tournaments were great. McGee played the last two matches well, but also had luck in the first two rounds. Džumhur played awfully, and Clezar was leading 4-0 in the third set and then lost. McGee definitely didn't play bad, but Pella was just playing better, he showed better tennis. And after all, Pella's a typical clay player who was in Top 100.
He played an awful season last year, and then took a title in Lima. On the other hand, this is McGee's first challenger final, and that's another advantage for Pella. Also, The Irish's got only five clay challenger wins before Mexico, and that's not a coincidence. Pella was beat by McGee in last year's Roland Garros qualifiers, but after that match, the Argentinian took a two-months break to decide whether he'll continue playing tennis or give up because of his depression. He admitted it openly, and then managed to get motivated for the rest of the season. McGee is a decent player, but not a Top 100 material. Pella was there, Pella's got 6-1 in challenger tournaments' finals, and when he's playing well and confident, than he's the favorite no matter how McGee plays. Especially on clay. Details

Nantes are convinced they can match Montpellier, and not only that, but that they can also make a big step towards the final. They lost in the semifinal in the last three seasons (Chambery, Montpellier twice), all three times away, but now they're playing a home match, and they dedicated a whole week to it. They used tactics a lot on Thursday in an away match against Montpellier, rested and spared players, and the focus was obviously on this duel. They had 20-20 in the 45th minute again, which only proved they actually can match Montpellier, who will play without two important left backs and a goalie. This will be their fourth duel this season, the first two ended in a tie, the league one in Nantes ended at 27-27. Three out of the last four in Nantes during the last seasons were a tie, and today Nantes are better than they were in the previous seasons, which can't be said for Montpellier. They have a quality to jeopardize this team, and I think we'll be seeing an even match, so this handicap looks great. Details

The Spanish league is about to finish, there are only two/three rounds left and motivation is beginning to be an important factor too, not just form. Huesca and Melilla are very close form wise but the visitors need the points much more. Huesca secured a spot in the league next season too as they are three steps ahead of the bottom table Prat. They conceded 104 points to Clavi and lost by 20 points, Melilla are better than the home team but they struggled with the lack of consistency throughout the season and now have to look to get into playoffs in the last two games. As coach Alcoba said, this is the most important game of the season for them. They are 12-14, have a spot leading into playoffs but Coruna are following suit with 11-15. Melilla have only one more match left after this one and a defeat today would make everything very complicated for them. Melilla had 20 rebounds more in the first head-to-head, dominated in the key, and should be able to do the same today. Visitors are more defense-oriented, which doesn't suit Huesca. Given the importance of the game I expect the visitors to get even better on the defensive end and I think betting at visitors's win is a good choice. Details

Galatasaray might not seem like the best team to bet on right now, but I trust them today. With Erceg and Güler rested, they can deal with teams much stronger than Trabzon. Motivation is their key, and with the eight players left, they can play fantastic basketball. They played an even match in the final moments against Alba in Berlin, played even at home against Panathinaikos, three even periods in Tel Aviv even though they played without Erceg and Güler. They beat Fener and Besiktas... their last league defeats were against Telekom and Gaziantep, and forced the coach Ataman to rest these two, and use younger players in Tel Aviv, which means the full focus is on Trabzon, and that makes it a whole other story. I've been watching them play this season a lot, enough to believe them now. Trabzon are coming with a four-defeats series, they're going down, and have 0-6 against three best teams of the league, Efes, Fener, and Darussafaka. They won the first one against Galata 72-70 at home, but I don't think they'll fare well today. Carter can cover Hardy, Erceg is a level better than Veličković who's far from his best days, Young can deal with Stipanović-Ivanov dup, Micov and Pocius can call the shots at the wing where Trabzon have Marshall, so I'll bet on the home team here. They have three tough matches coming up (Tofas in Bursa, Karsiyaka and Darussafaka), and a defeat today would jeopardize their placement to the playoff. Details

    Germany 1 Kiel - Lowen

"Everything has to come together for us to beat Kiel," was what was heard from Lowen a month ago when they hosted Kiel in the cup. It worked, and they won. Not today. Not only because Kiel are in an even better form, feeling very confident, and this match is more important, but also because, and that's the key, Kiel are playing at home. Lowen lost all (semi)important away matches this season - Szeged, Celje, Veszprem, Skoplje, even the small Erlangen and Bergischer. Vardar and Szeged even embarrassed them at home, and the only real away win was against Flensburg. Kiel, on the other hand, have a perfect ratio at home, 22 wins. Putting aside Lubbecke and Erlangen's struggles, all bigger rivals were taken seriously, and went home without a chance. All in all, this pick can be summed up in one sentence - Kiel are a level better than Lowen. The fact that they struggled against them or Flensburg in the last years, or struggled in Europe and Germany at the beginning of the season because of the injuries and the Wednesday-Saturday rhythm, those factors are gone now. They're complete, and they look terrifying - there's no weak spots in the offense, and everyone can afford a bad day because the substitutes are world class. Comparing the players, Lowen are better only with their goalie and the left wing, but the back line, where the handball matches are decided, Kiel are two levels above. I'd dare to say that nobody of the three Du Rietz-Schmid-Petterson, could get into Kiel's back line rotation. This tells you plenty about their quality - their substitute back line is Jicha - Palmarsson - Vujin. Do they even need a coach? And when it comes to facing that offensive quality, they're playing a fantastic 3-2-1 defense that shamed many rivals in the winter break. They've also got a 6-0 formation ready. If they can't work it with 3-2-1, they change to 6-0, if Duvnjak isn't doing well, Jicha comes in... Lowen don't have that, and can't match Kiel with their width or quality. Kiel are just crushing all their opponents, they don't have a weak spot, and the audience will push them towards the title. I don't give Lowen even the smallest benefit of the doubt that they can do anything here. Actually, I think that Kiel will get to about 15-10 by the half-time, and easily celebrate the title with the audience in the second part... Details

The Hungarian FTC-Rail Cargo won the Cup in 2011 and 2012. To get the third title in four years, they have to beat teams they lost to twice in the last year's Champions League. Midtjylland beat them twice, 32-23 at home and 26-25 in Budapest. Not much has changed in the last year, the Hungarians have a new coach, but basically the same roster. The only change is that they've got a new goalie, Katarina Tomašević. Midtjylland have almost the same starting roster, plus Sabina Jabosen and the experienced pivot Pedersen.
Comparing their results from the last year's Champions League, and add the fact that FTC brought a great goalie, and Midtjylland the best European defensive player, and connect that to Midtjylland's effect in the Danish championship (20.2 goals conceded per match), we can see that this will be a match where defenses will dominate. FTC can force the offense when allowed to by their opponents, but that's not the case here. We can compare this to matches FTC played against Gyori this season, who are similar to Midtjylland. They lost 26-31 and won 24-21 in the championship, and lost 23-29 in the Hungarian cup final last week. So, we can expect today's first semifinal match to be based on limiting the Hungarian offensive, and the second match will focus on getting the final and the trophy. Besides the under, the basic pick for this match, there's also value in the margin offered for the handicap on the Danish team. Details

The odds for this match are shocking. I've seen both teams yesterday, and despite the defeat, the Romanians left a better impression. They should have beat the Spaniards 3-1, and it turned the other way around, and the bookmakers used it to set the odds today. They lost the final moments not because of their bad game, but technical mistakes, and the referees holding weird criteria to give balls to Spain. Also, they were better than the Spaniards statistically in all the segments, it's really incredible that they lost. Turkey beat Bulgaria 3-2, but weren't that impressive. They showed two faces, a great one in the first two sets, awful one in the other two, and the Bulgarians are weaker than the Spaniards. The Romanian have a dangerous serve, they had 10 aces yesterday with only 11 mistakes, and the reception isn't the Turks' strength, that's why they lost a point. Turkey's block is a bit better, but the Romanians' offense is better with Aciobanitei and Baleano. They played the Balkan championship last season, the Romanians won 3-2, and that can be compared to the matches with the Bulgarians, that Aciobanitei and his guys won way more convincingly than the Turks did. All in all, this is a big value, for those who like safe bets, I suggest a handicap on sets, +2.5 on Romania because there shouldn't be such a handicap there. But, I'll go with this bet, which sounds dangerous only because of the odds, because this is a pure 50-50 game. Details

I'm not counting on any of the three questionable players being there for Lokomotiv while writing this. Them being on the team would only help this tip a lot. Even without those three, I think Lokomotiv are better than the Finish team. They beat Astana by 26, Zenit by 22 without them. Their motivation should run high after the defeat in Finland. Lokomotiv are very keen to do well after being knocked out of Eurocup and VTB league is their main priority now. They played the last game a week ago home and meet the feeble Samara in the next one. They are in the race for spot three and cannot afford any slips.

Bisons, on the other hand, have a game every two days and that's tough to handle, especially with the choice of players they have. They had to take a 2500 km trip to Krasnodar after playing both on Wednesday and Friday. Johnson should be back today but one should not expect miracles, especially since they're about to face one of the top European defenses. The Bisons will have 7-8 players they can rely on, this is their second to last game in VTB League and they are already probably thinking about the Finnish championship tasks they have coming next. They are not good enough in the paint to take advantage of Lokomotiv's absences. On the contrary, they are one of the worst teams in the competition when it comes to the physical aspect of the game. They had 15-20 rebounds less than their opponents Avtodor and Minks in the previous games. They do much better home, while losing by more than this margin away. Lokomotiv have what it takes to beat the opponents when on a roll and I think they will win convincingly once again today. Details

Guberniya's coach said after the yesterday's game: - Fakel lead in the series with this win, and I think that's crucial for passing through. I wish I was wrong and we can get back the series back to Nizhny Novgorod, but that will be really difficult, especially after the psychological burden of this defeat.
Nizhny Novgorod's tough and intense season was often explained like this, but there's no dilemma for me after Konstantinov's statement above. I see it as a sign of them giving up, the Bulgarian leaving Guberniya's bench, players talking about extreme fatigue, and it seems everyone can't wait for it all to end. Fakel showed character yesterday, they needed a win like that to boost their self-confidence back, and I expect them to be fierce today. They're a lot younger than Guberniya's team, too, which means they can recover from a game more quickly, and they also have an advantage when it comes to psychological aspect. That's why I think this will be a one-way game for the home team, a clear win seems like a sure bet and could be used for better tickets, but I'll go for a pretty low handicap of points rather than handicap of sets, because I expect the guests to stay under 18 points in at least one set. Excelsior are playing a huge game in the Dutch cup semifinal on Wednesday. This small club are 112 years old, but they were rarely in the first league. They only played a Cup final once, in 1930, and got defeated by their city rival Feyenoord. So, all of this shows the importance of the Wednesday's match, which will probably have its influence on this duel against Ado Den Haag. It's just hard to figure out how much of an influence it will have.
Probably none of the players want to get injured in this basically irrelevant duel because that would mean missing the semifinal and a potential final on De Kuip. After all, they have five chances to confirm their first-league status after today.
That's why coach Dijkhuizen didn't let anyone see the practices this week, to hide their plans both from the public and their opponents. Everyone in the Dutch press are discussing how Excelsior will definitely sacrifice this match to be completely ready on Wednesday. That doesn't mean they'll just give up on three points, but they're definitely going to spare their strength.
Now, to the other important factor here. This match is crucial for Den Haag because three defeats in a row pushed them down to the relegation zone, and they have to end that road today. They only lost once to Excelsior in the last eight duels they played, and never in the last six, including one friendly match. True, Excelsior don't have any away wins this season, but that's actually ideal for us, because that has to end some time, and why not today. So, we're betting on Den Haag winning today, but we'll protect our stakes with an option of a result other than a tie. So, if the match ends in a tie, our stakes will be back. If you don't like bets like those, you can bet on Den Haag winning at 1.65, but those odds are almost not worth the effort. Details

Hats off to Murcia and them beating Real, but not every day is Friday. Murcia will become sober today, thanks to a team who definitely don't suit them in concept. Barcelona with Tomić, Pleiss, Lampe dominate the paint, and Lima and Lee won't have room there, to use their rebounds, Murcia's best weapon. Without their rebound, Murcia are really limited, and won't be able to deal with the guests' defense. I expect a rough game, Barca's win, and then this under seems like a best bet. Details

If you should trust someone in a situation like this one, it's the Kings, the NHL champions in two out of the last three seasons. They often create situations like these, where they have to solve thing sin the last matches, but they know how to deal with them. The situation is far from being solved in the West, but it's clear for the Kings. They depend on themselves and if they do a good job, they're in the playoffs. They're in an all right form, with four clear wins in the last six matches, they lost the tough away duels against the Wild and the Hawks. They exploded in the last round, scored eight goals against Edmonton, and I think this situation is ideal for us. They're really motivated and feeling very confident now. Colorado are out of the race for the playoff, and they're probably aware their journey is over. They're not a stable team, especially lately, and I think the Kings' advantage is enough for this pick, and the odds are a bit bigger than expected. Colorado also played a tough match in Anaheim yesterday, and regardless of their winning, they definitely won't be 100% fresh here. Colorado lost their chance for the playoff at a home defeat against Edmonton, and conceding five against a direct rival speaks for itself. What's really important for this pick is that the Kings don't really suit Colorado, in the last two duels in the last two months, the Kings beat the Avs twice by three, and in Denver, so I have no doubts they can do the same at home in a match this important, when they have motivation, class, and ratio on their side. Boston got on form at the right time, but that was expected from a team of their rank. The season is coming to an end, they're still in the battle for the playoff, and playing against one of the weakest teams of the league in the last four rounds is not a chance you'd like to miss. The Bruins have four wins in a row, and the last two were against their direct opponents Detroit and FLorida, so I have no reason to not have faith in Boston against the weak Toronto today. Toronto are one of the weakest teams of the league, have another disappointing season behind them, and I simply can't respect them, at least not when they face a much stronger opponent. They even lost to Buffalo after two decently played matches. Boston are after the playoffs, and have a great chance to get two easy points. Toronto lost 22 out of 23 away matches, and most of those defeats were in this handicap. Details
