Toronto - Miami (96:92)

Miami struck the first blow

  • Published:

They've found a way to defend against Toronto in the first match already, and earned to start the series with a win. If Lowry doesn't get back on track against the Raptors, they'll hardly get the four wins to get through

Even though both teams got to the semis by winning the seventh game, it was Miami who left a better impression. The Hornets gave them a hard time, but they still showed brains in their game, but they could've played better even. On the other hand, Toronto struggled against the limited Pacers, and that showed plenty.

That struggled showed in the first game against Miami already. Miami took the home court advantage and won 102-96 after the overtime. They struggled for that win, but showed character when Lowry took the game to the overtime with a half-court buzzer-beater.

- I had a good view of the shot, unfortunately. I was looking at the ball and thinking "No way" - Wade said.

The first half-time was evened out, and Miami increased their advantage bit by bit afterwards. They were up by five starting the last quarter, and that increased to 10. But, the Raptors didn't let them get up high, and they made up being down by 6 in the last 20 seconds, getting it to the overtime. Toronto continued almost four minutes there without hitting a point, and they couldn't recover from that. DeRozan had the last chance to even out, but Wade stole that and concluded the game with his shot.

- We had to win the game twice tonight - Wade added.

Goran Dragič was the best with 26 points, while Dwyane Wade hit 24, 7 of which in the overtime. Joe Johnson added 16, the rookie Josh Richardson 11, and Deng had 10 points. Whiteside only hit 9, but had 17 rebounds, and was the main reason why Miami dominated that segment.

- D-Wade did a great job of reading the play and jumping toward the ball, trying to take the ball away from me - DeRozan said. He finished the game with 22 points, while Valanciunas was the best with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Lowry continued playing badly and finished the first half with no points, and only had 7 with 3/13 from the floor total. He hit the gym afterwards to practice shooting.

- We know he's not shooting the ball well. He's not making the shots he normally makes - the coach Casey said.

Lowry's shots have been awful through the entire playoff, especially his three-pointers, 8/50. Ross was decent help this time with 19 points, while Joseph hit 10 points.

Miami almost freaked in the first quarter already when Whitesnake slipped and fell, and left the game. But, he came back three minutes into the second quarter, and ended up spending 39 minutes on the floor.

- It was scary, it was a hard fall - Wade added.

From what we've seen so far, Miami could get their wins much more easily if they connect good plays for longer periods of time. They definitely deserved the first win, but they made the job hard for themselves. They found a way to deal with the Raptors' offense in the first match already. Deng did a good job on DeRozan, and considering that Lowry's game isn't good anyway, the Raptors don't really have good offensive options. Valanciunas will hardly play that well against with Whiteside, and that means Toronto will hardly find their way to the conference final.
