Can Kielce win a historic title already in their first final?

With the big win over Paris, Kielce have reached their first Champions League final and entered history books. Regardless of how today's game ends, this is a great success for the Poles who proved that a lot of stars does not guarantee success. We should point out that Kielce's skeleton are Polish players which giver more significance to this success. 

- This is history for us and Polish handball. We reached the first final for this club - Dushebajev was happy. 

PSG had a better start of yesterday's game. After ten minutes, they were in the lead by 3 after Abalo's goal. However, Karabatic enabled the Poles to make a comeback after first missing a shot and then he got sent off which Kielce used and got things back to the start with Cupic's goal (6-6).

It was a goal-for-goal game until halftime. Kielce had a chance to take a lead before the halftime, but they had to wait a bit longer for that. After Jurecky, Jachlewski also scored, Szmal started saving well and it seemed that Kielce will storm off. But then Omeyer woke up, got the game even again and it was obvious that it will be a fierce fight until the very end. 

The final minutes of the game belonged to Strlek who sent PSG into the match for the third place with two back-to-back goals. Vori also did not help his team with his hit with an elbow and a direct red card in the finish. In the end we have to say that Kielce deserved to win. 

- We have won with our minds, not with out strength. We were highly focused and well prepared. They dropped mentally in the second half, unlike us who were at a high level all 60 minutes - said Szmal. 

As far as the scorers are concerned, Lijewski, Recihmann, Zorman and Strlek scored 4 goals each for Kielce, and the best one, with 5 goals, was Jurecki who played another great game. Szmal was on the goal the entire game and he made 15 important saves. We should also add that Kielce had 18 minutes of 2 minute suspensions, while Paris had 8. 

- We have to remain focused. This is the most important game of the season for us. We don't want to just win in the semi-finals, but the fact is that this is a great success. We have strong team spirit and that is very important to us - said Strlek. 

Kielce will go into this game with the same tactics. Even though on paper it is easier than yesterday, we shouldn't think that they will relax or think that it will be easier. Dushebajev has turned this team into a machine that has a clear goal and does not stop until in achieves it. They are mentally very strong and that is a big advantage. Besides, they showed yesterday just how good they are in the field and they have equal chances today. 

Besides, when an expert like Veselin Vujovic says that he sees them as the title favorites, then it is evident that there is something there. 

As far as Kielce's roster is concerned, Jurkiewicz is out, Buntic didn't play yesterday because of his knee, as well as Sego who has the same problem. 

The second semi-final also brought an interesting clash. Kiel and Veszprem played two even matches during the season, and details were crucial yesterday as well. Kiel had a better start of the game, had 15-12 after the first half, but Veszprem started playing their defense in the second half and they got back in the game. The Hungarians conceded only 10 goals in the second half, and Kiel still had the final moments of the game in their hands, 25-23 lea, then lead by one and an attack in the last minute, but Veszprem earned overtime with Marguc's goal and they dominated the overtime. 

- Everyone but us thought that it was over when Kiel were in the lead by two at the end, but we turned the game around in overtime, we had faith in ourselves. We played good defense - said Marguc, one of the heroes of the win with 6 goals, while Ilic led Veszprem with 8. 

This is Veszprem's third Final Four in the last 3 years and after the fourth and second position, they want to be on the top of Europe for the first time. Veszprem have won everything they could this season and this game is their last obstacle they have to pass to have a perfect season. 

- We have to try and recover as soon as possible, because we have a big chance ahead of us. I cannot make any promises, he have one day to prepare for Kielce - Ivancsik.

Vesprem will rely on their defense today as well, they will primarily have to stop Kielce's transition and not allow for easy goals. Defenses were in charge in both of yesterday's semi-finals, the stakes are huge today and the game could be even again.
