These teams played Regionalliga/West last season. Wiedenbruck managed to stay in the league while Lotte won the championship with 15 points more than the runner-ups. They were on a great run since the end of February (14-3-0). They managed to reach the next round through playoffs after beating the favorites from Waldorf Mannheim in a two-legged game. That was a historic success since they never played in 3rd division before. No one left the team after the end of the season and all the key players extended their contracts. The preparation for the next season started only recently and this will be their first test. The next test is on Saturday when they are set to face the Dutch team of Twente. The only player coach Atalan cannot count here is Luka Tabkulic (13-2 last season). A few players came for a test.
Wiedenbruck will open the new season quite weaker since a few top players from last season left the team. The worst departure is of their top scorer Bednarski (33-19). Defender Wassey left as well, just like Bachorn, defender Babcar M'Bengue and Kotuljac. Coach Backstedde has 4 new players but Lekesziz, Wolf, Admir Kadric and Yildiz aren't good enough replacements. Staying in Regionalliga next season will be their priority. However, that goal will be much more difficult to reach this season.
These two teams played two championship matches in which Lotte never conceded a goal (1-0 2-0). The match will be played on neutral grounds in Furstenau. The difference in quality between these teams was obvious last season. Wiedenbuch will be much weaker this season, unlike Lotte, who kept the team together.
