Monchengladbach - Eintracht Frankfurt (0:0)

Both coaches struggling with injuries

  • Published:

The big question is will Borusia and Eintracht's best strikers, Raffael and Meier, play

Borussia Monchengladbach have been inconsistent at the start of the new season, and for the last week coach Schubert has been struggling with key players' injuries. After a valuable away win at Celtic in the Champions League, Schubert's team lost to Bayern in Munich. The Bavarians decided the game already in the first half with Vidal and Douglas Costa's goals, and considering home team's early goals, Borussia struggled to achieve the wanted result relying on counterattacks. On Tuesday, Borussia qualified into the round of 16 of the DFB Cup by defeating Stuttgart.

Schubert is hoping they will go back to winning in the championship against Eintracht:

- The team from Frankfurt have made a lot of changes in the squad from last season. They had a good start this season and they are coming here with a lot of confidence. They will try to play good football, they have a good platform to build on since they were pleased with avoiding relegation last year. That is their goals now as well, which means they have nothing to lose in this game and they can play their own football. Also, they are not playing in three different competitions and that makes them very dangerous for us.

Ahead of the game against Eintracht, Schubert is having a lot of problems with absences since he cannot count on Dominguez, Christensen, Doucoure, Schulz, Traore and Drmic. Strobl and so far irreplaceable midfielder Kramer are struggling with minor injuries, but they should be in competition for today's game. Borussia's best striker, Raffael, started training with full intensity the day before the game, but it is unsure if Schubert will use him in this game.

Eintracht are one of the most pleasant surprises at the start of the new season. Kovac's team appear great on the pitch, despite constant problems with absences and inadequate training facilities, and that is best witnessed by the recent draw against Bayern and an away win over HSV. Eintracht continued their successful run on Tuesday in the DFB Cup by defeating Ingolstadt after the penalty shootout. Eintracht's success is even bigger when we know that they played both overtimes with one less player because Fabiano was sent off.

Kovac believes that his team will not have problems with fatigue after 120 minutes played in the Cup:

- I told them to sleep a lot, eat well and drink. I believe that motivation will not be a problem for them. When I used to play, I felt better when I played evening games. Either way, I would be happy if we would remain ahead of Borussia on the league table after the game.

The away team from Frankfurt are also having problems with absences. Kovac cannot count on Anderson, Russ, Varela, Stendera, Flum, Blum, Bunjaki and Rebic. The biggest problem for them is the injury of their captain and most dangerous striker, Meier, who, in the best case scenario, could start the match in Monchengladbach on the bench.
