Atletico Madrid - Bayern Munich (1:0)

Atletico knocked out the mighty Bayern last season

  • Published:

Neither of these two rivals got defeated this season and are at the moment in a very good place

Atletico opened the season a bit slow but as time goes by, they are starting to look like the team from previous seasons. After opening Champions League with a win in Eindhoven, getting a point at Camp Nou and then beating Deportivo last weekend without some key players, Atletico are in high spirits ahead of the clash with Bayern. Simeone always says there is no A and B team but it's very clear who is who at Atletico.

Diego Simeone is an Argetine but the kind of football he admires is German:

- I really like German football. I admire it. They can be the example of what should be followed. They have consistency, determination and they are always at the top. They never give up. I like their mentality and the way they think. I wish my team had that.

- I can promise our fans we will be the team they know. I always say that words don't mean much. Actions do. We are to face super powerful opponents but we know how to deal with them. Those previous games mean nothing. We need to be serious and good once again.

Simeone cannot count on Tiago Mendes, Miguel Angel Moya and Alessio Cercio. He lost two more players today. Midfielder Augusto Fernandez suffered a bad injury in the last game and won't be back for at least 6 months. Center back Jose Maria Gimenez got injured in the same match but his he can be replaced.

Bayern recorded their 8th win in the 8th game of this season but it was only very late in the Hamburg game that Ancelotti's team scored for the win. Bayern were dominant against HSV, especially in the second half but the ball just wouldn't go in the goal. Kimmich managed to score after getting an assist from Ribery who came rushing down the flank. Neuer kept his goal intact once again (conceded only to Lezcano from Ingolstadt).

Guardiola's Bayern were knocked out of Champions League to Atletico last season which means Ancelotti has a chance to get back at them:

- Atletico have a clear style and they are very organized. Everyone knows their team. They have been doing great the past few years. It's always tough against Atletico and it won't be any different here. We're in fine form at the moment and we need to do well. It's always nice to be back to Madrid but I'm enjoying in Germany.

Only defender Badstuber and winger Douglas Costa struggle with injuries at Bayern. It is assumed that Ancelotti will got with Boateng and Javi Martinez as center backs, which means Hummels is to start on the bench. Muller and Ribery are expected to start in offense alongside Lewandowski.
