Legia going to Lisbon with a new coach

Sporting almost created a perfect sensation in Madrid, and Legia got embarrassed in the first round, and lost the coach Hasi after a series of failures

Sporting almost created a sensation in the first round in an away match against Real Madrid, but couldn't make it till the end. With Bruno Cesar's goal, the Portuguese were leading until the 89th minute, and then their former player Cristiano Ronaldo evened out the result. Then, Alvaro Morata scored for the win in the fourth minute of the injury time.

The defeat shocked the green-whites so much that four days later, they lost to Rio Ave in the national championship. They woke up this weekend, though, and beat Estoril 4-2, coming back to the fight for the first place.

- Beating Estoril is really important for us because it boosted back our confidence after two defeats. We finally played a good match, we were up to par for the entire 90 minutes, showed desire and will, and that makes me happy before the Champions League duel - the Costa Rican forward Bryan Ruiz said after the win.

The coach Jorge Jesus dealt with the Polish team:

- I know Legia have a new coach who didn't have enough time to get ready, but he lead the B team earlier, so he probably knows everything about the team. As for my team, I'm a bit worried about our defensive game. I expect progress in that area against the Polish champion. They might not have started the competition well, but whoever is in the Champions League should be respected and they earned a serious approach.

The hosts are still missing the Lukas Spalvis who got injured in July.

Legia had a disastrous start of the season with the coach Hasi who got embarrassed after losing a home match to Borussia Dortmund, as well as against Zaglebia Lubin. The fans didn't like Hasi ever since he came to Warsaw, and the club management decided to fire him after that defeat, so the temp coach Vuković lead the team at an away game against Wisla in Krakow. 

Even though the season just started, Hasi got Legia quickly eliminated from the Cup, and their champion title sounds like sci-fi in the national championship, since they only got 10 points in the first ten rounds.

Vuković isn't meant to stay long - the game in Krakow was the first time he acted as a coach. He played for Legia twice, and after six seasons in Warsaw, he definitely knows the team well, so he's going to be an assistant coach for the rest of the season. A day after the away duel in Krakow, Legia announced that their former player Jacek Magiera will be coaching the team.

Mageira spent 17 years in Legia, nine as a player and eight as an assistant coach, so there's no surprise to how happy he was for the chance:

- I'm very happy I came back home after being away for a little bit, Legia was in my heart the entire time. I knew I'll be back here and I did my best to make it happen. I left a year ago to take over Zaglebie Sosnowiec, and the only club I'd leave for were Legia. I hope we can start something new.

The bad news for the new coach is that the national team's center back Pazdan injured his shoulder on Friday and had to leave the field. It's nothing serious, so Pazdan could be playing against Sporting. The Warsaw guests also have to deal with the defensive player Kucharczyk's injury, and the left back position is expected to be occupied by Hloušek, he missed the game against Borussia Dortmund because he was suspended.
