Jazz want to end the negative run

  • Published:

LSC boys are on a three-game losing run, but tonight they shouldn't have too many problems since they're hosting the lost Knicks

Jazz spent this summer getting new bench players which proved a rational decision considering that injuries are again plaguing the roster. But, unlike last season, now they're fully equipped to deal with absences. Despite the struggles, Quin Snyder's boys are currently fourth, but the Clippers are just half a win away, and Thunder are also trotting two and a half wins behind.

A road-trip is behind Jazz. It started with a promising win in Detroit after which they suffered three defeats in a row, recording on average only 89.7 points in each of them, and recording the three-pointer below 30%.

- We have to fight more, but this is not the time to panic. We simply have to pull ourselves together and do the season final well - said George Hill.

The last fail from Salt Lake City came on Monday when they were beaten in Indianapolis with 107-100, but realistically they didn't deserve to win. Jazz spent most of the game falling behind, and in the very final they had a chance to steal the game which was prevented, in the end, by Paul George.

- Mentally we weren't ourselves. First of all, kudos to Pacers. They played a good game. They recorded shots. It seemed that each time we do a series, they react with an important shot. This was a difficult road trip for us, but we can't sink - said Gordon Hayward who recorded 38 points (16-for-24).

- I'd have preferred that I recorded zero points, but that we had won.

Next to him, George Hill recorded 16 points (7-for-17), and six rebounds and assists, and Rudy Gobert recorded 16 points (7-for-12) with 14 rebounds and eight blocks.

The return to SLC should stabilize Jazz since they have a 23-12 home record, and they will go after their fourth win in a row against the worsening New York Knicks who have said goodbye a long time ago for the playoffs. Their fifth defeat in the last six games came on Monday when they were outplayed in an away game against the Clippers with 114-105.

- We want to finish the season well. We don't want to give up. It's obvious that we're not where we want to be, but we simply have to keep fighting. Each individual has to continue working and getting better - said Kristaps Porzingis who is back after pausing for one game, and recorded 18 points (9-for-16) and 11 rebounds.

Derrick Rose also recorded 18 points (6-for-11), while Carmelo Anthony recorded 16 (6-for-14), and coach Jeff Hornacek said that he's planning on lowering his play time in the remaining 12 games.

The Knicks lost three away games in a row, and they were beaten by Jazz at the start of November with 114-109.

It's becoming more obvious that Carmelo Anthony is playing his last games as the Knicks member whose main man, Phil Jackson, has been making moves the entire season which should provoke his first start to give up the "no trade" part of the agreement. That didn't happen in the last moments of the transfer period, it was mentioned that Melo could head to Clippers or Cavs, but it seems that Anthony is finally ready to leave New York which could be read from the following statement: "Honestly, I think about it a lot. I try to put everything into perspective. I think about (New York), I think postseason... It makes you want to think about what’s next or what could be next." Be that as it may, Anthony has been playing badly in the last few weeks; he doesn't look like a man who was paid to be a recording machine. A part of the reason is not getting along with the management (Jackson), a part lies in the system, and probably a part of it is bad shape and fatigue. In March Melo recorded: 17 (4-for-16), 18 (5-for-18), 15 (6-for-12), 16 (6-for-13), 13 (4-for-9), 27 (10-for-26), 22 (8-for-17), 17 (6-for-18) and 16 points (6-for-14). In those games he spent 39, 36 ,35 ,40, 36, 37, 41 and 25 minutes on the floor, and allegedly he'll spend less time in the rest of the season, which is logical considering that winning is no priority for Knicks. The Knicks have a road game today against one of the best defenses of the league, so it's realistic to expect small numbers, including Anthony's who recorded more than 20 points against the city rivals (27) and Pacers (22); he ended the number of points, rebounds and assists bigger than 28.
