Brooklyn - Phoenix (126:98)

The Suns don't fare well against the Nets

  • Published:

The guys from Brooklyn won eight of the last ten duels including the one in November when they won 122-104 in Phoenix

After a 16-game losing run, the Brooklyn Nets won five of 12 games, averaging at 107.3 points, 45.3% shots including 39,8% three-pointers. Their efficiency is even more impressive considering they're still struggling with injuries, and it's hard to be motivated in a season that's lost.

They beat the Pistons at home on Tuesday, 98-96, and the hero of the game was Brook Lopez with 29 points (13/24), including the winning one that beat the buzzer.

- The idea is to keep playing tough, not quit and have no slippage. You want to build a foundation and get things right so we have continuity going into next year - Lopez said. His average in March is 22.4 points with 49.5% shots including 40.7% 3s.

- We're just going to keep building it and part of that is the spirit of the guys and, led by Brook, it's just, in the situation we're in, his enthusiasm, whether it's a timeout, whether it's a shootaround and I know that's his job, but this isn't the easiest situation. So I'm happy for him, that he hit the game-winning shot, because I just think his spirit, what he brings to the team every day, it's been huge for us - the coach Kenny Atkinson praised his center.

Four players who didn't start the season with the Nets, Caris LeVert (15), Spencer Dinwddie (10), K.J. McDaniels (11) and Archie Goodwin (10) hit 46 points combined, with 16/35 from the floor. They'll have more opportunities tonight since Sean Kilpatrick and Joe Harris are out again, and Jeremy Lin is questionable, but he most likely won't play either.

The Nets have 9-27 home score this season, and will be hosting the Phoenix Suns in the Barclays Center today. The Suns are one defeat away from the record season when they had 50+ defeats. The seventh loss in the last eight games, the fifth one in a row, happened on Tuesday when Earl Watson's guys lost 112-97 in Miami. No surprise there considering that they had 24 turnovers, and allowed 36 points in the second quarter alone.

- Can't give up 36 points in a quarter if you're trying to win. They were scoring off our turnovers. They had a lot of points in transition and we just couldn't slow them down - Devin Booker said. He only had 11 points with 4/16 shots from the floor.

The rookie Marquese Chriss was definitely the most efficient Suns player with 24 points (7/9) and seven rebounds, confirming good form. His average in the last four games is 17.5 points with 7.3 rebounds.

The Suns took their ninth loss in the last 11 games on Florida, and the fact that they lost eight of the last ten duels against the Nets doesn't sound too encouraging, either. That includes the game in November when they lost 122-104 in Phoenix.
