Belarus may have left the best impression of all the Group B teams. OK; they struggled to defeat Romania (70-68), but they controlled most of the game. They 'bought' me with a great performance against Croatia (79-72) whom they dominated in the first half (43-31). Ireland lost both games convincingly, 69-46 to Britain and 79-50 against the hosts. They were very bad in the first quarter in both games (Britain 7-19 and Israel 9-23) which will be hard to correct against offensively powerful Belarus.
Belarus started games better so far at the championship, while Ireland did not start games well, which is why the first half handicap seems like the logical option. We can point out Ireland's friendly games against Slovakia who are similar offensively to Belarus. The halftime result in those two games was 49-21 (84-44) and 57-21 (95-56). Ireland were down 41-18 by halftime against Israel, while they won the first half 25-28 against Britain. But I would take that result with a grain of salt because Britain had a a double-digit lead after the first 12 minutes after which they dropped. They ended up winning by 23 after a serious approach in the second half.
Belarus will want to decide the winners early on, after they played two difficult games in the last two days, and I believe they will be in the lead by over 15 at halftime.
Another good option is their team over. Ireland conceded 84 and 95 points against Slovakia in pre-season, here 69 against Britain, 79 against Israel. Belarus scored 70 and 79 against two serious teams, and they should have a chance to score easy points today since Ireland made 55 turnovers combined in the first two games.
