Silva: I will try to enjoy my first Top 100 clash

Despite his ups and downs in recent weeks, Mannarino obviously managed to adapt well to the courts where he had reached the finals twice in his career. He has more quality and experience than Silva, and he's better rested, which makes him the favorite here

After pretty poor ATP performances in America (Newport, Bogota), Mannarino got back to Europe and somewhat inexplicably, he change the surface once again.After grass and hard court in German, he played a clay match. The point is not entirely clear but that was obviously his plan.

After all that, the question was in what form would he come to this tournament where he started as the top seed. He's the only Top 100 player here and his expectations are clear - winning the tournament.

This question was answered in a very fast and positive manner and his first performance can be characterized as very good. In slightly less than an hour, he beat Angelinos, a Greek who's primarily a futures player. The difference in class was visible from the start and the Frenchman was able to materialize it. He was very strong and stable on his serve and didn't allow a single break chance, while he was a constant threat. He got 8 chances and used 4 to calmly win the match.

- The first match on the tournament is never simple as you are still getting used to the conditions I have obviously succeeded and played good tennis and handled things without too much trouble. I'm very happy with my performance - said the Frenchman after the match. He has reached the finals of this tournament twice so far.

It has to be said that this was a very favorable draw, just like his opponent in the second round. He will face Fred Silva, a 19-year-old Portuguese who has reached his first challenger through qualifications.

He's without a doubt a player who still doesn't belong here and should still work on his form at the futures level so this is all just an opportunity to gather some experience. But after passing the qualifications, he faced a good chance to go through in the form of Obry and he used that chance. In a tight and not too good match, he did better in clutch situations (break chances 3/7  vs 2/8) and the celebration could begin.

- I think adaptation was the key as this was my fourth match in a couple of days. It was a difficult match in very challenging conditions and I'm happy for this win. I'm looking forward to the upcoming challenge against Mannarino and my first match against a Top 100 player - said the young Portuguese after the win.
