Muguruza not ceasing to impress

While Timea struggled to beat Niculescu more than it was expected, the Spaniard went past Wozniacki in straight sets. She is doing really well and the Australian Open win over Timea this season surely gives her a reason to believe in a good outcome today

Wozniacki recorded a shock defeat to Muguruza in the 4th round of this season's Wimbledon. She simply lacked calmness in the finish, which allowed Muguruza to save a break point when serving for 4-4 in the second set. She went on to win Wozniacki's next service game and finished the match by saving another break point. She went with risky approach once again, as she has throughout the match. She had only 53% of first serve but made up for it through brilliant footwork and incredible return of Wozniacki's second serve. 

Wozniacki won only 6 out of 18 second serve points, which is precisely what made the difference in that match. Muguruza controlled the rallies, won 59% of second serve points and 23 on the net in 28 attempts. Even though Wozniacki mostly finds a solution when her opponents go on the net, this time she lacked aggressiveness and made too many errors on the forehand side. To sum up, Muguruza definitely deserved to advance past Wozniacki.

- This wins means a lot because I didn't play too many matches on grass court and didn't know how to prepare for Wimbledon. I opened the match focused and ready because I knew she would try and get the rallies as long as possible to wear me out. That is why I used my opportunities on the short balls and the serve. I played well and the serve make it all a lot easier against these types of players. I think I like the grass court a bit more now - Muguruza said after reaching her best result on grass court ever.

She will look to continue the winning streak as the takes on Timea Bacsinszky today. Timea lost the first set easily in the last round match against Nicullescu but managed turn things around to break the Romainan's resistance in two hours and ten minutes. It took her far too much time once again to find a solution for Niulescu's drop shots, which very quickly saw her lag behind 1-6. However, as the match advanced, Timea took over control and after 7-5 in the second match limited Niculescu to only two games in the third one. She brought the number of errors down, caused frustration for Niculescu through her game and finished the match with 31 winners but also with 38 unforced errors. Timea can be happy with her game despite losing the set but she can be even happier with a fact she didn't give up but rather fought till he very end to get out a tricky situation.

- I think I played quite a few good matches lately. Last season brought me a lot of matches like this one, which is why I stayed calm in the key moments. I believed in myself and believed in a comeback. I tried to change things on the court and at least give her a hard time. There's always a solution. I'm very happy to be able to play again tomorrow - Timea said.

Even though Muguruza already caused upset for a few opponents, one glance over the odds suggests that a tough match is expected. The expectations are realistic since Timea is not as passive as Wozniacki and Kerber are, which means the Spaniard will have a lot less time in preparing her shots. Still, a lot of will depend on the serve as well, which has been Muguruza's strong suit in the last few rounds.
