The most interesting quarterfinal match

Torro-Flor opened the match against Maria badly but managed to get better in time and win convincingly. Sevastova beat Cepede in three tough sets and once again displayed a good game but Torro-Flor left a better impression so far

Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor knocked out the No.1 seed Tatjana Maria from Florianapolis Round of 16 as expected. She displayed a good game in the first round and it was expected that Maria's game will suit her. She opened the match badly and lost serve at the very start. But she went on to improve greatly and win in an hour and 18 minutes (lost a total of only 4 games). 

It was a truly good performances by the Spaniard, who started controlling the match once she found rhythm. Maria was too passive and fired too many weak shots, which Torro-Flor took advantage of. She won 59% of return points and had 13 break points in 8 of Maria's service games. She won 65% of first serve points and had 65% of first serves. Her second serve, on the other hand, wasn't that good again. She had only 39% of second served against Maria, which makes it clear that her serve percentages will play an important role as the tournament advances. 

Torro-Flor will try and extend her winning streak in the match against Sevastova, who managed to beat Veronica Cepede Royg after a big fight. Both players were consistent from the baseline. The outcome was heavily influenced by the bad serving as well. We saw 16 breaks in 32 games, with Sevastova being more successful. Even though Cepede has staggering 21 break point (6 more than the opponent), Anastasia was better in key moments, which decided the match. She hit the ball well on forehand while often making mistakes on backhand. She had only 53% of first serves. 

Cepede showed the right was to pay Sevastova - patiently and without much rushing. Torro-Flor is playing a more aggressive tennis with more risk but it seems like she will have the upper hand here. On top of everything, she will have the upper hand at first serve and that makes her one of the prime contenders for the title here.
