Wozniacki and Kvitova have 6 New Haven titles combined

These two players have been dominating New Haven for the past few years. It was only in 2013 that neither one of them won the title here

The health problems Kvitova is having made everyone uncertain about what she would be capable of doing here. She didn't do the first two tournament of this series well and nothing suggested that things could change here. But, there is clearly something special about New Haven for Petra.

She first beat Keys after saving 8 out of 9 break points, even though Keys is not what she used to be either. The only important thing is the win though and the level of Kvitova's game is much better now. She went on to beat Radwanska, who has been doing great in the first two rounds. It was a straight sets win for the Czech.

- When you're down 3-5, you have to try and do something differently. I took quite a few risks, maybe too many. I missed a lot of shots and my timing was off - Petra said and then explained how she made a comeback.

- I tried to get in the rally and wait for a better chance for a winner. I think that paid off in the end.

What's important is the fact her serve got better to help her a lot since she struggled a lot on second serves. 

- She's smart and I knew what I was getting into. Her footwork's great and it's hard to find balance against her. You have to be aggressive but not too much. I tried to do just that - to strike the balance - Kvitova said and added:

- I've always been doing better here than at other tournaments. This place gives me confidence. I'm happy with my performance.

Wozniacki, on the other hand, barely managed to beat Vinci in the second round. The Italian is probably still regretting everything she missed out on in that match. Wozniacki managed to win after saving three match and then met Garcia in quarterfinals. Garcia is a dangerous opponent but that was simply not a good day for her and when that happens, the defeat is inevitable. It's no wonder she finished with only three games, especially because Wozniacki can get the worst out of her opponents.

Interestingly, Garcia opened with a break in the first set but won only one game until the end. The second set was horrible for her as she allowed Wozniacki to sail through it. The Dane definitely didn't need another drama after the Vinci match.

- It was nice to win quickly in straight sets. Garcia is young and good. I knew she would step out on the court and try and be aggressive from the start. But, my footwork was good and I managed to fire back the shots well - Wozniacki said.

Wozniacki and Kvitova have 6 New Haven titles combined. They often play well here. Wozniacki has 4 straight titles at one point but Kvitova took over the last two years. Wozniacki is 5-4 in head-to-head matches, having won the last two. However, they didn't yet meet this season. This is a special place for both of them...

- It will be tough. My matches against her are always tough. She is doing well and hitting the ball hard - Wozniacki said.
