Milos Raonic - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (6:4 6:4)

Tsonga finished the three-hour battle with Ramos late last night

  • Published:

The Canadian managed to win all of his service games even through he lost a set to keep on taking advantage of the conditions which suit the servers. Tsonga made 50 unforced errors and displayed top quality only in the third set. We saw just one break in their last meeting, which was also played on clay court

Even though Raonic dropped a set, his win was rather convincing. He never lost a service game and saved 4 break points and hi 17 aces with 80 percent of first serve points. Dolgopolov might be a tricky opponent but he wasn't too much trouble for the Canadian. Also, he used half of his return chances and did well in rallies, in which Dolgopolov would normally be better.

- I did things well after losing the set. I stayed tough mentally and that is why I won. I'm happy with my game. I controlled it, which is a crucial change compared to Monte Carlo, where I was too indecisive - Raonic said.

Tsonga played the third set as well but he struggled more. Ramos is 1-19 against Top 10 players but often causes them problems. He did the same in the Tsonga match. Ramos had better first and second serve record in the second set, which is why it's no wonder the match finished in three sets. He finally got better in it and lost only 5 service points. One break was therefore just enough.

The Frenchman took a lot of risk, which is what resulted in 53 unforced errors, compared to Ramos' 49. He will not allow so many mistakes here just because he will not have that much chance on return and every dropped service game will be deadly. As for head-to-head meetings, the Frenchman is 2-1 but Raonic won the last match, which was their only one on clay court. We saw 9 break points and just one break on Roma. The Canadian won 4 points more and won in straight sets. We can expect a close match here as well.
