Wozniacki: You don't climb Mount Everest in one day

Wozniacki sad she was a bit rusty after the comeback match in Nottingham. Her break was rather long, but the most important thing is that the ankle didn't give out in all those matches. She lost to two aggressive players (Kontraveit, Wickmayer) and last week she recorded straight wins. But she defeated Cornet and Stosur, and neither of them played a match since Roland Garros. 

The Dane left a great impression in both of those mentioned matches, we have to say that, but it is evident that some very important circumstances were in her favor. Also, she played Eastborn final four back-to-back seasons, but she failed to do so this year. Puig stopped her in three sets.

- I think Puig played really well today. There are some things that can improve, but I feel good in general and I am feeling confident. An I say again. I am not a seed and I cannot get a good draw. I have a feeling that it wasn't on my side last year, and I hope that will change after Wimbledon - said Woznicaki, and added something after last week's defeat.

The Dane faced Zheng at the start here last year, and Allertova in the second round. Woznicaki was the favorite in both matches, but she struggled in at least one set in both of them. Even though she won in straight sets. This year's draw has her facing a more difficult opponent at the start. She will face Kuznetsova, a played whom she faced 11 times so far and recorded 6 wins. Their record on grass in 2-0 for Wozniacki, but last year, in a much more relevant match, she won in three sets on Eastbourne grass-court. She lost the first set, but she easily won the other two. We should also say that Wozniacki had 5-1 lead in the first set.

Kuznetsova withdrew from Birmingham, and then as the seed played the second round of Eastbourne. She lost to Bondarenko, who played her second match of the day, and also saved five match-points from the Russian. Kuznetsova had a good start of the match, but she became less aggressive later on, which got Bondarenko back in the match. But despite of that, she can be happy with her performance, less so with the final result. 

In the last five years, she advance through Wimbledon second round only once, while Wozniacki reached the 4th round in the last two seasons, but before that she recorded only one win in two seasons. The Dane played more matches on grass-court this season, she defeated Kuznetsova in Eastbourne, but Kuznetsova proved many times that she should not be written off before the tournament starts. You can always count on her combative spirit,and on account of that she won a lot of matches this season.
