Both surprised with wins in the first round

Herbert didn't get a break-point in his last two grass-court matches against Kohlschreiber, but this time his 'kamikaze-tennis' worked perfectly. Dzumhur confirmed once again that there are no conditions in which he cannot manage well

After several great performances on hardcourt, Dzumhur showed at the most important grass-court tournament that he is not a player who can be put in one box. Advancing through the first round of Wimbledon is not the only important thing. He recorded a win against a player who is great in these conditions. In a period of one week, he defeated Istomin, the defending champion in Nottingham, and Kudla who defended the fourth round here. 

- After I took 2-0 lead in sets, Kudla saw he has nothing to lose and started playing more aggressively. My performance dropped a little with that, and it was not easy to play against such opponent. I waited for my chance and it came in the fifth set. I did not drop mentally even after missing a break lead. I kept believing in myself - Damir was filled with confidence after the great win, and now he is once again the underdog on paper. 

- Honestly, I am not surprised with Herbert's win over Kohlschreiber. He is a great player, especially on grass-court because of his service-volley. He covers the court well after the serve and returns well. It is not by accident that he and Mahut are the best doubles this season.

It seems hat Dzumhur knows his opponent well, and he is currently slightly worried about a minor injury. 

- I injured my left leg a bit. I hope it is nothing serious and that I will not have any problems in the upcoming match. I hope I will be able to give a good performance. 

In his last two head-to-heads against Kohlschreiber, Herbert didn't earn a break point. But the Frenchman has an uncompromising approach. He went all in this time as well, and won it all. He didn't allow the German to get any rhythm. He won 37 points in 45 runs to the net, which is impressive against such a good opponent. But Kohlschreiber was not himself. We could see the lack of practices which is a consequence of the injury in Halle. 

- I knew that it would be a struggle and it turned out like that. I didn't allow him any rhythm, and I didn't give him a lot of chances on his serve. Except in the third set when I got nervous. I managed to set things up an earn a big win - the Frenchman said after he got revenge for the recent defeat in Stuttgart. 

This is their second head-to-head. They played at a clay challenger two years ago. Now the stakes are third round of Grand Slam. Even though conditions are in Frenchman's favor, Dzumhur proved many times this season that he can adjust. Just ask Kudla.
