Mahut sees his chance in the surface

Ferrer dealt with Sela easily for the second time in a month but Mahut is a much bigger threat, especially since the Frenchman is living the best days of carrier

This must be the toughest season for Ferrer in his carrier. He's out of Top 10 and the only question is whether he will be able to get back. Grass is definitely not the surface where he does best. Besides, he came here after losing to Seppi and Muller. He lost to the Italian for the first time in 10 meetings. Luckily for him, the draw paired him up against Sela who cannot be better than Ferrer even on a great day. He does a lot of the things similarly but much worse than the Spaniard, both on serve and in rallies. 

- I played tough and consistent which is always important in the opening rounds. I beat Sela two weeks ago and I knew where to attack. I served rather well, moved well and attacked. That is crucial on grass court. You cannot only defend yourselves - Ferrer said.

Unlike Ferrer, Mahut could not wait for this part of the season. He is No. 1 in the doubles ranking and has recently won a title Hertongensbosch. Just a reminder, the Spaniard has no finals at all this season. He put up a good fight against Murray, who went on to win Queens and started with a three set win here. He did nothing impressive on return but just one dropped service game says it all about his toughest weapon. 

- To be honest I have to admit I had a good draw. The only weakness was in the second set when he converted the break point. But I won in three sets and that was the goal. I have enough energy for Ferrer and doubles - the Frenchman said and added:

- When I have to play Ferrer, the best thing for me is to play here. I know he's dangerous on return but it's more difficult to be good on return on grass court. 

Ferrer won the only match five years ago in Paris indoors. But he was a bigger favorite back then. Mahut's win wouldn't surprise anyone now.
