Fognini in his 11th ATP final, Martin his first

Fognini played the last two sets against Dzumhur and the match against Elias in a great way. This is the best week in Martin's career, and he's beaten two Top 50 players on his way to the final

Fognini came to Umag saying he's a bit tired after the DC weekend. He had a slow start against Olivo, but still won in straight sets. After that, he had a slow start against Dzumhur, and it cost him the first set. But, he literally ran over the Bosnian player in the other two sets, and he was just as great against Elias in the semis. Elias has been playing the best tennis in his career in the last two weeks, but it's hard to play Fognini when he's focused.

Fognini did a great job with his serve, and didn't offer a single break-point. He had one break in the first set, and two in the second. It was a great match, he was consistent, focused and motivated. It turned out to be an easy win.

- This was a perfect match. I'm really happy with my tennis - Fognini said.

This is the Italian's second Umag final, and 11th in his career. Out of those 10 matches, he only won three. The last time was in 2014, and he's been in a 4-final losing run ever since. But, his opponents were Ferrer twice, Nadal and Klizan. Now he'll face Martin, who played the best tournament in his life here, and was never in the Top 100, but will get there after Umag.

- He's an opponent who can run a lot. We both want to win the tournament. I've got more experience in situations like these, but he played a great tournament, this is his first final, and he's got nothing to lose. I have to stay focused and think about my goal - Fabio concluded.

Just like he said, Martin has been playing great in this tournament. He's beaten Stakhovski in the first round, then Klizan, and then Sousa, two Top 50 players. He finished it off by beating Berlocq who's been playing great for the past few weeks.

The first set was weird. There were six breaks, but Martin always had the advantage. He missed a break-point at 5-5, but won the first set in the 13th game. He was losing 2-4 in the second set, but took the last four games, and got what was definitely the best result in his career. He'll now be a Top 100.

- I want to stay in the Top 100 now. I've worked with my coach on making my forehand my weapon. I feel confident now when I use that hit, and it's more efficient. I'm not tired and I'm happy I'm in the final. I'm used to coming here and watching the matches since I was a kid. It's incredible that I'm in the final here now. My goal is to keep my ranking and get to the best tournaments - Martin said.

As Fognini said, he's got more experience in situations like these. While this is his 11th ATP final, Martin was never in one. He does have a 7-4 score in the challenger finals, though.
