The German got his first GS win of the season

Sock played five tough sets against Fritz. Mischa got the biggest win of the season so now his confidence has been boosted

Sock managed to break Fritz after five sets thanks to a mediocre performance, but it seemed as if it could've been simpler when he was two sets ahead at one point. However, the humid conditions in New York did their part. Sock's game went terribly down in the next two sets. But, he caught the last train to the second round and managed to finish the job.

- Fritz has got a huge potential and it could've been expected that he'll resist well, he did it at the AO this season already. He's got future ahead of him - Sock praised his compatriot.

Even though he doesn't really have a great score against the players out of Top 100 in his career (55-35), Sock improved that score in the last two years (7-2).

Mischa Zverev confirmed he's on the right track back to the Top 100 by a win at the beginning. Herbert, otherwise one of the best player in the doubles competition, managed to win only one set against the German.

- I was very focused, I didn't allow myself to get nervous and that prevailed. A feeling of the win at the GS scene after seven years is quite special, to see that I can do it even at this stage of my career - Zverev said after his first GS win this season.

He got two Top 50 wins in the last two years, stating that he also managed to take a set from Tsonga, Muller, Karlović. He also had four Top 10 wins in his career.

When it comes to their head-to-head, Sock's leading 2-1, but the last match they played took place three years ago.
