This is a clash of players who feel far better on clay court. But we do need to note that the Brazilian recently played QFs at the Olympics. Elias is, on the other hand, on a 4-match losing run on hard court. He has been limited to 3 games in the last 4 matches

There are not many things the left-handed Brazilian can be happy about this season. The poor form is affecting his ranking. He is currently outside of Top 80 even though he recorded some good results on clay court challengers in July, while he reached QFs in Rio. That was expected to perhaps give him a boost but nothing has really changed since. He was knocked out from US Open first round to Kuznetsov and then did disappointingly in the Davis Cup match against Belgium. He recorded defeats to Darcis and de Loore for a bad overall defeat for Brazil. He was then on a one-week break and is now to make a comeback. He would often not even come to Asia and has not recorded a win on this continent since 2010.


Elias


The 25-year-old Portuguese doesn't often participate at tournaments like this one. This is his first ever Asian swing. This season has been rather successful for him as he managed to make it well into Top 100. He is on the verge of getting into Top 60 at the moment but we cannot say his form is brilliant. 


After some great performances on clay court and two straight ATP semifinals, things were slowed down as he went on clay court, which is no surprise given his game style. He is a typical clay court player who is 3-20 on hard court in the last 2 years After beating Kokkinakis at the Olympics, he went on to lose the next three matches (outdoors) while he got limited to just three games to Troicki indoors last week. He is now to play on hard court again. This is his first meeting with Bellucci.
