Munich - DEG Metro Stars (0:4)

Reborn Munich are looking for their third consecutive win

  • Published:

Up until recently the players of Munich looked very bad. However, the criticism of the coach was successful and last weekend they won maximum points and are entering the match this evening as favorites

After they looked like a routed army two weeks ago and lost both matches with a goal ratio 0-12, the players of Munich won maximum points on weekend and reached sixth place on the table. After they celebrated against Iserlohn on Friday, on Sunday at home they won against the reigning champions Eisbaren.

They started of badly and in the seventh minute they were already losing 0-2. However, in the 12th and 16th minute they equal the score with Ryan Duncan and Jan Urbas. In the first period the shots on goal ratio was 26-13 for Munich so the away team should have been more satisfied with 2-2. In the second period Eisbaren achieved balance but Munich were more efficient and with the second goal by Duncan and a goal by Daniell Sparre in 48th minute they reach 4-2 lead. That result remained to the last period.

In the last period Eisbaren put everything on the offense but the defense of Munich remains firm until 52nd minute when the away team score for 4-3. However, for anything more than that Eisbaren had no more strength. They tried, they even removed the goalie, but the result of all that was a fifth goal by Munich when in the last minute Daniel Bois hit the unguarded goal. Ryan Duncan (two goals and an assist) and Jochen Reimer (36 saves) were especially efficient.

After the match the coach of Munich said, half jokingly and half seriously:

 - My players cannot even pronounce "defense" but they are doing their best. Tonight our fans decided the match, as they pushed us on after 0-2.

Munich will be without three forwards this evening as well, injured Hintertocker and Palmieri and suspended O'Connor. However, their problem is in the defense. If the defense plays properly, the offense will score enough for their third consecutive win, this time against the team they crushed in the first match this season with 6-0.

After they at one time caught the rest of the league sleeping and had three consecutive wins, the players of DEG Metro Stars had three losses in the last week. On Friday they lost at home against Ingolstadt, on Sunday they were majorly defeated in Augsburg and on Tuesday they lost at home again, this time against Hamburg.

On Tuesday they took the lead in 9th minute with the goal by Bernhard Ebner. However, after that goal the away team took the initiative entirely and for better performance they got a reward of two goals at the end of the period. A tough battle was lead in the second period as well. There were few opportunities on both sides and one was used by the away team who reached 3-1 lead in the 47th minute. In the last period DEG are forced to play more offensively. They are a more efficient team and only a minute and a half before the end captain Daniel Kreutzer scores for 2-3 but they ran out of time and strength for anything more than that.

 - We didn't manage to remain focused for the entire 60 minutes. Hamburg are a team who are excellent in covering positions and who have excellent individuals. Against them you cannot allow yourselves to make mistakes. We pressed them well but we didn't manage to equal the score. On Friday in Munich we need to implement things we learned in this match - said the coach of DEG Christian Brittig.

This evening they will appear in almost the strongest lineup as well. Coach Brittig cannot count only on the forward Ashton Romeo who is injured for a while.

Munich's players managed to overcome a mini-crisis, and they once again seemed like a very serious team last week. I am convinced that they'll secure their third consecutive win tonight. DEG are obviously suffering a decline in form. Moreover, the away team will be more fatigued, considering the fact that they played an excellent match of the 48th round on Tuesday. At the beginning of the season, Munich achieved a high 6-0 win in Dusseldorf. Although it is hard to expect another demolishing match such as that one, they have quality, experience and home ice on their side. Therefore, Munich will probably win this match by at least 2-points lead.
