Lithuania and Netherlands seem to be very similar teams at first glance, and looking at their rosters they are. However in this particular situation, a way too many factors favor the Lithuanians. Although the Dutch are better ranked in the IIHF, thanks to their old results, Lithuania are playing at home, and the game is also the starting match of the World Championship, the most important sporting event of the year in that country. Lithuania will have fan support, while at the same time not as much pressure as if this were, say, basketball. Both teams have a similar profile, but Lithuania have two big and important differences: Dainius Zubrus on offense and a Swedish first league goalie at the goal. Under these conditions and at this level those are huge advantages, especially in individual quality, since as a team they are both quality crews.
