The Rome derby that will decide which teams gets an automatic Champions League qualification

Following Napoli's defeat to Juventus, it became almost sure that both teams from Rome will be participating in Champions League next season

The Rome derby between Roma and Lazio will decide which of those two teams are to get the final Champions League group stage spot and which one will have to play the Cl playoffs. Good news for the both Rome-based teams is the fact Napoli were defeated in Turin Saturday. That will see Roma almost certainly finish at least in spot three, while Lazio need only a point in the last two rounds. They will not be happy with just a point in this derby match, especially after they failed to claim the Cup trophy last Wednesday. Lazio took an early lead in that game but Chiellini scored an equalizer for Juventus, while Matri scored scored the decider in injury time. 

Pioli said Lazio will not be happy with just a point when talking about the game:

- We are playing to win. We want to get everything we can out of this season. That means this game is crucial. When you start holding back you take more risk. I have a lot of faith in my team. We could have been more determined and luckier against Juventus but we'll stand a chance of winning if we play like that again. The team is very motivated and I'm glad the game was pushed for Monday so that we can get completely fit and ready.

It is assumed that all the players who did the final against Juventus will play again today. Merchetti should be on the goal while Felipe Anderson, Mauri and Canderva are expected to start just behind Klose. It is questionable whether Lulic or Braafheid will start on the left side of Lazio's four-man defense. 

Everyone was relieved at Roma on Saturday after learning that that they will finish the season at least as the third-best team in Serie A. That means they will play Champions League. Of course, everyone at the club wants to finish as the runner-up because Roma were in that spot for almost the entire season. They need to defend that spot against the city rivals Lazio. The Rome city derby is one of the most violent ones on the pitch and normally a lot of players get booked in the game and since this one will probably not be an exception since it's this important. 

Roma's coach Garcia was very critical of the opponent:

- Everyone's saying that Lazio are the favorite and that they're playing the best football in Italy. We'll see how that will go on Wednesday? Oh, why is the game on being played on Wednesday? It seems like they couldn't postpone the derby match even more after having to play for 120 minutes against Juventus. Roma would have to play with 12 men on the pitch to do something against them according to what they're saying, which is absurd. I remember them winning the Sampdoria match with an illegal goal after crying following the Inter game. 

Center back Castan, defender Maicon, midfielder Strootman, and the fast forward Gervinho will miss the Lazio game. Roma will play in the usual 4-3-3 formation but there are still some questions Garcia needs to resolve regarding the lineup. Either Astori or Yanga-Mbiwa are to start at the center back position. Pjanic and Keita are expected to start in midfield alongside Nainggolan and De Rossi. It is still not clear who will be in the offense together with Totti. It is assumed Iturbe and Ibarbo will start and Ljaljic and Doumbio will stay on the bench.
