Newcastle tied three victories, Liverpool still trying to figure things out

A few could believe that Newcastle will win against Tottenham on their home turf in the league, and Manchester City in the Cup, while Liverpool defeated Swansea in the League Cup on Tuesday and that's what keeps them going after all the ups and downs and failures in the Championship, and these two rivals tend to play efficient matches

Few could hope that Newcastle will, in only 10 days apart, tie three victories together, one of them being an way match with Tottenham in the Championship, and the other one with Manchester City in the Cup. Alan Pardew can now finally take a deep breath despite the fans still asking for him to leave.

Today Liverpool's coming to meet them, also wanting to get points and to get out of the crisis, so this will be a true test for Newcastle to see how far they can really go. Interesting data shows that the two clubs haven't played a goalless match since 1974.

- One should always expect a difficult game against Liverpool, and this is a duel which is in its own way a bit romantic, and usually brings us exciting and anticipating moments - said Newcastle's coach Alan Pardew.

- I know Brendan Rodgers well and I know how he'll play today, but I also believe that he doesn't know everything about us and that we can surprise them. A lot of my players are in shape now, the mood is up after three consecutive wins and now we're after our fourth - concluded Pardew. Besides the longer absent midfielder De Jong and defender Santon, midfielder Tiote will also be out. There were problems with forward Demba Cisse and defender Williamson, although we're expecting the same starting 11 as it was in the duel with Tottenham.

After not being to beat anyone on home turf in four matches in a row, Liverpool welcomed Swansea on Tuesday and managed to beat them 2-1.

That happy triumph could have a bigger meaning, especially on the psyche of the players because each team lose faith in themselves when they fail. They can't do 'small' matches which they usually do with ease, and the same is happening to Liverpool this season. New players have a hard time fitting in, the realization is nowhere to be seen, and the media are firing their guns, especially over Balotelli.

Coach Brendan Rodgers doesn't have it any easier, so he would need such a dramatic win to ensure his players that it's possible to turn around.

- I made nine changes in the line-up for the match against Swansea, and although we managed to score goals in the finale, they were still our prize for the domination we held for the most part of the match. The players got a chance to react and they did it well, and that's the best news for the remaining season - explained Liverpool's strategist Brendan Rodgers. Next to the longer absent centre forward Sturridge he won't have defenders Sakh, Flangan and Enrique, but none of them contributed greatly so far.

- This could be a week of turnovers for us if we could beat Newcastle today. We know that the hosts are doing good after three wins and they will try to use that self-confidence against us, but we are relying on our quality. A good and tough game in the defense and more creativity in the forward game could guarantee those three points - hoped the away team's strategist Rodgers.
