Scotland - Poland (2:2)

Lewandowski adding to the already fiery atmosphere

  • Published:

World's top center forward said that he expects Scotland to be aggressive and not necessarily in accordance with the rules. He fears that the opponents will try and kick him off the park but is saying things like that really a wise thing to do?

It is clear that Scotland cannot finish higher than the third spot ahead of the final two qualifying rounds but not even that is down to them only. The first thing they need to do is to beat Poland to keep their chances up until Sunday. Lewandowski added to the already fiery atmosphere by saying:

- I expect the Scots will play very aggressively and not necessarily in accordance with the rules either.

Scotland's manager replied by talking about stats that clearly shows Poland recorded more fouls and booking so far, while adding that no player will get a special guard today:

- Poland are not just Lewandowski, they have some other good players to count on. We'll try and stop him through team work because that is how we prepared for them. Of course, it will be easier if we manage to have more possession, which is the plan.

Strachan will not be able to count on midfielder Morrison (a suspension), forward Mulgrew and winger Anya (injuries). Team captain Darren Fletcher had minor injury struggles but he managed to recover in time. Aberdeen's center back Shinnie is the new name on Strachan's list. He believes that not everything is yet lost:

- It does seem like mission impossible for us but we still hope that we can qualify for Euro. I've seen all the previous games and the team seemed good in most of the cases, especially in Poland. That is what we base the confidence on.

The visiting coach Nawalka has no problems with the lineup and has the best Poland has to offer at his disposal. There is one new player on the team for this game. It's Hannover's Sobiech, who deserved a spot on the national team after good performances at the club.

- We have two key qualifiers left. It will be tough in Poland and against Ireland but we believe that we can finish what we started successfully. This is not moment for experiments which is why I will rely on those who played so far. The fact Sobiech is back on the team after two years confirms anyone who is in top form can get on the team.

A win in Glasgow would secure the Euro qualification for Poland if Germany do not lose in Ireland. Poland do not count on that to happen at least judging by what Nawalka said at a press conference yesterday:

- We are well-acquainted with the Scottish quality. It won't be easy to play the home, no one had it easy there. I'll keep the tactical details to myself but we will have to put a lot of energy because physical strength might be the opponents's greatest weapon.
