The unconvincing Liverpool in fear of Ronaldo

Liverpool wins are not convincing while Ronaldo keeps on setting all kind of records at Real, who meet Barcelona next weekend and won't be able to count on Bale today or next weekend

Liverpool are now just a shadow of what used to be one of the greatest European club (5 titles), while Madrid remain among the best, having won the tenth Champions League trophy last year. They are one of the main contenders for the title this year too, but Anfield Road lives for a great game that this one certainly is and hopes that Liverpool will be capable of putting up a fight against the main favorite in the Group B.

Liverpool have so far not been convincing in any sense of the word, but Brendan Rodgers and faithful fans don't want to stop hoping in better performances the rest of the season. 

Real will be the toughest obstacle in reaching their goal, but it is at the same time a game in which motivation will run highest. The fans are happy when they look back at 2009 when Liverpool beat Real 4-0 in the Round of 16 second leg game home. That is the most horrible defeat for Real in the Champions League.

Steven Gerrard, who scored two goals in that 2009 game, will once again be the leader on the pitch. But, the opponents, with unstoppable Ronaldo, are on a whole different level now (Raul and Higuain were offense leaders back then).

It's therefore no surprise that most analysts agree that Liverpool's unreliable defense will have the toughest task in this game - stopping the football masters at Real. Every player on the team will have to help with that, including Balotelli and Sterling.

- This is a very important game for us and a great challenge. It's good we can play the best of opponents. We're not where we were last year yet, for a number of reasons, but this is a special game and I'm convinced that precisely because it is a great game, we will be able to play as well as it will be necessary against the great opponent - manager Rodgers said. He still can't count on center forward Sturridge, which is not good news what with Balotelli still not being at his top level.

- It will be very tough against such good quality players, especially Ronaldo. The records he set are amazing, but we have a plan. If all of my player do their best and act as a team, we can hope for a good result. Each and every point counts - Rodgers said. He is well aware that Basel can get ahead in the race for the second round if they get 4 or 6 points against Ludogorets and Liverpool fails to get any in the next two games with Real.

Real weren't on top of their game as the season began, but Madrid club are getting better as the time goes by. They beat Levante 5-0 over the weekend for their 5 consecutive championship win. The goal difference during that run is 25-3! The run can be extended to the two Champions League games they did so far since they won both (Basel and Ludogorets) to make two huge steps towards the next stage.

Liverpool and Real are two great European clubs and Carlo Ancelotti expects an interesting match:

- It's strange that Real and Liverpool didn't meet more often. But, we're meeting now and I believe the fans will get a great spectacular game and brilliant performances by the two great teams. The pace will be high and the game dynamic. We'll do everything to won. As for the tactics and the line up, we'll stick to our plan. It's not really important if it's a home or an away game, we always play the same.

Ancelotti doesn't have Bale on his disposal today since the Welsh player got injured just before the Levante game. He will not miss only this game, but the one they're playing with Barcelona next weekend. Jese Rodriguez, Sergio Ramos and Fabio Coentrao were not on the team for a while.
