Wenger under fire, Borussia need a point for top spot

Arsene Wenger has come under severe criticism after the defeat to Manchester United, but Arsenal need only a point to get through to Champions League knock-out stage for the 15th consecutive attempt. Borrusia need a point for group top spot

After allowing Anderlecht to get a point after being in a 3-0 lead, Arsenal now have a new chance to confirm their spot in Champions League Round of 16 as they face Borussia from Dortmund. Even a defeat can see Arsenal get through, if Anderlecht and Galatasaray's play a draw. Arsenal will almost certainly reach their goal today, but that isn't stopping the severe criticism he's been under after the Premier League failure.

London-based team have not been able to win a tougher game against great opponents for years now, only to continue in the same fashion last Saturday when Manchester United won 2-1 at Emirates. Arsenal are out of the race for championship title this early on in the season. Following that defeat, one of the greatest stakeholders at the club Alisher Usmanov said that 'Wenger makes mistakes that are increasingly harder to accept', which would suggest that this might be Wenger's last months or last season at the club he lead for 18 years. 

Wenger hit back at criticism, but not many will be willing to take it anymore if he doesn't prove him words with action, especially since he slowly loses fan support. With 17 points in the first 12  rounds, Arsenal recorded their worst start in the Premier League. A point would be enough for them to qualify for Champions League knock-out stage though.

Midfielder Wilshere is injured, Ozil hasn't been on the team for a long time, which is a huge problem, and Welbeck doesn't seem to be doing best either. He is expected to start as the striker against Borussia. Giroud recovered as well to score that goal against Manchester City, but Wenger decided not to use him today and left him off the list.

- I'm saying that we need team spirit to be our driving force again, we need to believe in what we do and we'll be able to win then - Arsene Wenger said. He hopes to motivate his players to the fullest tonight as this win would mean so much, especially confidence-wise. The draw that would suit both opponents is out there as well.

Borussia have secured the knock-out stage, but a point today would secure them the top spot in the group. Even if they lose, Arsenal will stay two points short. Borussia can only regret they haven't been doing that well in Bundesliga. They met Paderborn, took a 2-0 lead and didn't make it to the end.

- We try to play the best we can, but the truth is, we're not doing well lately. Not just as a team, the individual players are having ups and downs too - Klopp said.

One of the players he's talking about is Kagawa, who will start today in order to find form as soon as possible. Borussia will need him, especially now that Reus injured his ankle again.

Reus is not the only one, a few other players are on the injured list.

- I know many say this is the ideal moment to be meeting Arsenal away since they are a few players short . But we are far from the best possible situation regarding the choice of players as well - Klopp said.

He said that his team don't have to chase the result today, but he doesn't plan to give any of his players a day off. He wants his team to get consistent and hopes to prepare for Bundesliga as best as possible. 

Borussia should be in the usual 4-2-3-1 tactical formation, with Aubameyang in offense. Kehl and Gundogan should organize their midfield. Midfielders Bender and center back Papastathopoulos, who did great in the first meeting with Arsenal, are not on the team today.

Both Arsenal and Dortmund are teams that don't exactly exemplify aggression, and when both are happy with a point and have major away matches in the league which they want to play with as few injuries as possible, I doubt we'll see many cards. The home team received six in the first four rounds, the away team just a single card.
The referee is Viktor Kassai, who has a high average, but is also an elite referee who will not cause unnecessary tension. For instance, he recently did not show a single car in the Albania - Denmark match.
Several bookmakers are holding the margin at 4.0 but i believe this is worth the risk and try with a lower. I'd go for 3.0 if I had the chance.
