Ivory Coast defeated in what was supposed to a sure win

Mali are followed their plan that was getting a point against the better teams and beating Guinea

Ivory Coast missed a change of getting three points against the worst team in the group and will have to try and advance to the next round through games with tougher opponents. The main reason that game didn't end as a win was the fact they let Guinea play their game, which the opponents took advantage of to score. When Ivory Coast finally snapped out of it in the second half, Gervinho was sent off. Luckily, Doumbi got off the bench to score an equalizer and save them from a defeat.

CSKA's star will be given a start in the Mali game but coach Renard didn't say whether that meant the formation will shift to 'proper' 4-4-2 or Kalou, who is not doing his best when put more in the back, will stay in the lineup.

- Replacing Gervinho is not easy, but we have other good players. Seydou is unstoppable in the box and will be very dangerous when teamed up with Bony - the Frenchman said.

Mali were defeated to Ivory Coast in the last three head-to-head matches. It was 1-0 in the 2012 AFCON final when Gervinho rushed down past Mali's defense to score the only goal. Mali never scored in those last three matches.

- We know what to expect, they're one of the best African teams. It will be tough, but we have the quality for dealing with these kind of games - Ivory Coast coach said.

Mali were defense oriented against Kameron as per usual. It got them on the podium in the last two African Cups. The plan was clearly to get two points from the first two games and then record a win over Guinea.

- I don't think I need to say much about the opponents. The players know they're in for a tough task. We need to keep the rhythm from Tuesday and bring the individual mistakes to a minimum - coach Kasperczak said and went on to reminisce about his coaching of the Ivory Coast 20 years ago.

They will probably go with the same 4-5-1 formation, with fast and strong Yatabare as a target of long-distance shots.
