City looking to make amends following slips

Manchester City won only one out of the last 4 Premier League games and a win over the great second-tier Middlesbrough would mean a lot ahead of the Premier League derby match with Chelsea

City have had a string of disappointing championship matches that ended with a defeat to Arsenal, which got Chelsea back into a 5-point lead in the table. City are to meet Mourinho's top table table side next weekend at Stamford Bridge.

That could be the game that will decide the champions this season but before the big clash, City need to deal with the second-tier Middlesbrough in an FA Cup match. As for most Premier League teams, the pressure is not as great in these kind of matches, many even reshuffled the squads, but Manchester City need to restore the good atmosphere of the team at this point, not make it even worse by losing again.

Manuel Pellegrini will call for a very serious approach and only the injured players and Yaya Toure (African Cup of Nations) won't be on the team.

- We were in Abu Dhabi for five days and rested well. I don't think the travelling will affect us in any way. I'm hoping to win and get through in FA Cup - manager Pellergrini said. He can't count on Nasri, while well-experienced Lampard might miss the game too.

Interestingly, City have not scored only in one out of their 25 FA Cup matches, in 2013 final against Wigan.

Middlesbrough have had much more successful periods in the past, even spend some good seasons in Premier League. This season, they are a second-tier in a race for the top spot and the team is in high spirits.

Both teams can be quite relaxed about this match since it turns out that neither team will see the defeat at Etihad as a tragedy. That, however, doesn't that the team lead by Aitor Karanka won't be motivated to stun City. On the contrary, Middlesbourg are looking to boost their confidence even more by performing well and recording a good result, now that they are in the race for promotion to Premier League.

- I want us to well like when we played a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in League Cup back in September. We need to be determined and not afraid o the mighty rival - manager Karanka said. He can't count on Ryan Frederick and Damia Abella, but neither of them are key players.
