Costa Rica without Navas, but with powerful offense

Jamaica recorded three defeats at Copa but all three opponents were very powerful and they definitely didn't embarrass themselves

Costa Rica reached Wold Cup quarterfinals last season and it's therefore normal that they are considered one of the favorites for winning the Gold Cup. However, Keylor Navas, their brilliant goal keeper, is not at this tournament, meaning Esteban Alvarado is most likely to take over at that position. One glance over the Costa Rican line-up makes it clear that their offense with Joel Campbell, Bryan Ruiz and Alvaro Sabori is the best part of the team.

Los Ticos should not have any problems making it into the next stage of this competition but still, one can never be cautious enough:

- All the players are doing very well, including goal keeper Alvarado, who had minor injury-struggles the last few days. We are totally ready for the first game with Jamaica and I hope we'll only polish a few things that are not top-level before that. There are no doubts about the lineup, I'm going with my best squad from the start - coach Wanchope said.

Jamaica agreed to participate at Copa America, which serve them as a preparation for the Gold Cup, which is much more important for them. Winfried Schafer's team recorded three defeats to much more powerful opponent such as Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay but they didn't embarrass themselves. All three games finish as narrow 0-1 defeats. The only thing the German coach can be concerned with is his team's efficiency. Luckily for him, Jamaica is to face somewhat weaker opponents now. 

The team Schafer has at his disposal has not changed since Copa America, with the only ones missing being goal keeper Kerr, midfielder Gordon, and forwards Brown, Williams and Parkes.

Jamaica's assistant coach Coley talked about the match with the US:

- I think we're at a good moment and that we play in good form. We were very happy with our performances at Copa America but there's not time for rest, we need to build our game on that result. We focused on offense that was not always top-level when preparing for the tournament but it was not expected that we would attack a lot given the opponents. You can expect a more offense-oriented Jamaica now.
