The home team won 4 out of the last 5 games but they are normally not very successful against Spartak. The visitors, on the other hand, ended the losing streak against the increasingly better Krasnodar

Rubin kept on making progress last week.They first took down the great rival of theirs Ankar away and then recorded their first European win of the season against Sion. But, the win has most likely come too late since they are left with only a theory in the final round. Rubin would have to beat Bordeaux away and Sion would have to lose to Liverpool home. Bordeaux are horrible and Rubin can definitely beat them but Liverpool have nothing left to play for and that might be a problem for the Russian side. 

But Rubin will definitely turn their attention to the Russian championship because the potential success in both games could get them believing into reaching Europe one more time next season. The situation on the table is currently not ideal but Rubin have the quality that only needs to turn into a good result now. They are now to face a team they beat only once in the last 9 championship matches. 

- Spartak have a great team, they now beat Krasnodar and that gave them a boost of confidence. On the other hand, they clearly have a lot of flaws as their spot in the table suggests but we have to see those flaws and take advantage of them - forward Devic said. He's been in top form lately so Portnyagin's absence is not visible at all. 

Rubin will be without their top player Karadeniz, which will make things on the offensive end much tougher. 

Following three straight defeats, Spartak finally managed to win. They beat Krasnodar 3-2 and thanks to that win and the competition falling short of expectation, Spartak could claim spot 4 if they win today. That would see them fight for top spots. 

It seems like the rest of Spartak's season will be determined by these two games they have left before the break. If they do them well, a lot can be expected from them later on. Spartak's results have been below expectations for years now, but the problems are hard to detect and there's not much that can be done about it. 

- Spartak are still the greatest Russian team and everyone else plays the games against us as if it was the last game of their lives. We have to be able to deal with the pressure. The same will happen against Rubin, who displayed an impressive game in the last few games - defender Kombarov said. He said the media talking about his potential transfer from Spartak is a bit unsettling since he has no intention of leaving the club. 

As per usual, Spartak will struggle with absences a lot today. The defender Parshivlyuk is out, just like his colleague Makeev, who didn't play much this season. Starters Roman Shirokov and forward Movsisyan are out as well.
