Bayern don't care about the Supercup? Yeah, right

After losing two Supercups Bayern want to avoid the third straight loss at any cost. The problems Wolfsburg are currently having with the offense could make things easier for Bayern, depending on how willing the home team are to risk it with players suffering from minor injuries

The football season in Germany is traditionally being opened with a Supercup game. Also traditionally, one of the two teams playing the Supercup is Bayern Munich. As the Bavarians opened the season a month ago, their coach Guardiola said health is the most important thing:

- Trophies are important but it's equally important that we get better each next week. My greatest wish is to see the day when I have all of the players at my disposal. Thago, Mertinez, Robben and Ribery recovering from their injuries will be the best help for the team.

Only Thiago has fully recovered of the four so far. Robben is on the way to full recovery and may not play today even though he traveled to Wolfsburg since he started practicing with the rest of the team this week. Martinez and Ribery stayed beind in Munich, just like Dante, Badstuber and of the players who go back from a loan Kirchhoff. Everyone else is at Pep's disposal in theory.

Even the substitute for Schweinsteiger (left for Manchester United this summer, the only important departure from the team) Arturo Vidal is on the list, even though he just joined from Juventus and had his first practice session with the new team on Wednesday ('I'll be ready if the coach wants me to play'). Forward Douglas Costa joined from Shakhtar and that's pretty much when it comes to the players who joined. There are, of course, more of them but the others will most likely not play an important role on the team this season. 

When it comes to Supercup, many think that this trophy is not too important to Bayern but that is not true, especially not this season since Borrussia Dortmund beat them in the last two Supercup games. 

- The Supercup title might be least important out of all the titles we are to fight for but that doesn't mean we don't want to win - sporting director Marrhias Sammer said. Goal keeper Neuer said something along those lines as well:

- We are motivated and take this game very seriously. It's the final and you don't play the final in order to lose.

The slap from Wolfsburg in the last head-to-head match (Bayern lost 1-4) will be another source of motivation (Lewandowski: 'we have not forgotten about that defeat and January and we want to get back at them for it'). Kevin De Bruyne (voted best player of the year last weekend) and Bas Dost scored in that match, meaning Bayern will definitely be happy if the two of them don't play today, which could happen since they are both struggling with minor injuries that could turn into bigger problems if not taken seriously.

The current DFB champions could be quite limited in offense today since Hunt and Perisic are also questionable. The latter also seems likely to join Inter, according to the rumors. Defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo will be out for sure. He didn't even participate in Brazil's Copa America campaign recently but in spite of all the trouble, coach Dieter Hecking (won coach of the year award) believes that Wolfsburg have good chance to prove they are worth the Supercup:

- There is no point talking about long-term goals now but I believe our team is not even close to the end of the road. Continuity is what we'll keep on insist on. We will always focus only on the next game. Right now it's the Supercup, which we want to win. I'm not saying we'll beat Bayern but we already proved that it's possible and I have a great deal of optimism. I'm sure we'll play an important role this time around as well.

Sporting director Klaus Allof said:

- Supercup is the only trophy we still don't have. It would be nice to complete our collection. We'll do everything to make it happen.

The continuity Hecking is talking about is very much feasible since all the important players stayed (for now). Not too many well-known players joined and only Max Kruse from Monchengladbach is expected to start helping right away. He could be the leader of Wolfburg's offense today due to all the aforementioned problems.
