Burgos made some changes to their roster over the Summer, they kept two important players from last season, Martinez and Vega, and added a lot of new players, but mostly all experienced players when it comes to the Spanish second division. They acquired point guard Steinarsson, guards Lopez, Soluade, and their forward Brine came from NCAA division and he was great in pre-season. Their biggest acquisition is center Huskic from Huesca who dominated second division last season, and center Gibson fit in well. Burgos were a bit slower in pre-season, due to all the roster changes, and the tight defeats against Gipuzkoa and Clavi were not surprising. But as the team were playing together for longer their performances improved. They defeated first division side Caja Laboral (with a strong lineup) 73-68, and at the end of the pre-season they defeated Palencia, second division defending champions 91-82.
Lleida's coach Comenge decided not to use two players from the starting five today, Alzamora and Sutina who are clearly not completely fit and he wants to have them at his disposal in one week when they will face Caceres. They stayed in the second division only because it was expanded to 18 clubs, they were last placed in the previous season. They went through reconstruction over the Summer as well, acquired some players from the 4th division, Rupnik from Olimpija, Feliu from Palma, and Mbaye from Barcelona B. They do not seem impressive on paper, they played 7 public pre-season games. It sounds good that they parried Manresa well at the start, but their only significant win was against Barcelona B who are much weaker this season. They suffered two defeats to Huesca (76-87 and 72-87), and in the last friendly they lost to Prat 70-87.
This is not a crucial information, but in the last two away games, Burgos did not fare well. The similarity between these teams is that they made significant changes to their rosters, but Burgos have a better team, they are playing well together, and Lleida could not even compete against second division sides who are weaker than Burgos. When we add absences to that, I cannot see the away team parrying the right way here.
