Austria scored 13 in the first half on Wednesday, but Spain played weak defense, something that is rarely seen lately. Sam Ribera said that's what they've got to fix, and no doubt that will be the case because the tough defense was Spain's main weapon, especially at home. Bosnia (qualitatively compared to Austria) had only six in the first 30 minutes in the qualifiers here, and Finland 12 when everything was more relaxed. They left Slovenia, Tunisia and Angola at 10 in the championship, Iceland at 12, showing defensive strength. 14 by Macedonia is not worrisome because of their 7-to-6 game, as well as the surreal 18 by Brazil, but when they improved the defense, they only had 9. They limited Poland to 11 when preparing for the championship, Argentina at 10. Before that Sweden 11 in the Olympic qualifiers, Slovenia 12. Looking at their home games in the last few seasons, they limited Sweden and Poland to 7 (with Jurecki, Bielecki, Lijewski and the rest) in the preparation tournament, and before that in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, Finland at 9, Germany at 8 and Austria at 8. Austria are a bit weaker on the road compared to at home, so no point analyzing that. I would only point out their last results in the last years. They had 9 in the first half against Bosnia in this year's qualifiers, 11 in the friendly game against Germany (only 5 in the second half), 10 and 14 against Portugal (in the second more relaxed game), 14 against the Czech Republic (9 in the second). All in all, I think when the Spaniards are serious, Austria don't stand a chance, and I definitely don't see them getting high numbers in the first half considering the hosts will want to decide the winner as soon as possible to avoid another drama.
