Houston no longer have green clay and the bounce is a bit lower and the conditions are faster than on the classic red clay. Karlović won the title here seven years ago but that was a different time. Even though Ivo is in good form, I am surprised by such low margins. It's probably the surface. He has played against sock twice and the match went into the third set on both occasions. Two months ago in Memphis, they played two tie-breaks without a break and Ivo broke the young American in the third set. Sock played five extended sets in two matches against Isner, last year he played a three-set match. Against Raonic, he has 2 three-set matches and one defeat from a few weeks ago. It's obvious he doesn't fear great big servers, which is crucial for matches against Karlović. This can go through in two sets, although I wouldn't be surprised if the third set occurs considering the time both of them will need to adjust. And that is the reason why I expect a somewhat weaker performance on the return.
