Larsson said that her performance alone got Kanepi back into the match, most of all with her passive approach and nervous performance in the end. Fatigue is visible in Kanepi's performance as today's match will be her 12th in last 16 days and the conditions here definitely don't suit here. Hogenkamp got her first WTA win this season and has left a much better impression than Kanepi

Hogenkamp achieved her best WTA result last season right here on this tournament. She passed the qualifications to play in the quarterfinals after beating two players who both had their own problems. Hogenkamp passed the qualifications once again and she beat Schmiedlova after two sets and about 1 hour in the first round.

Hogenkamp had a huge advantage on both serves. Her efficiency was 75% after the first serve and 41% after the second, which is the best indicator of her dominance over Schmiedlova (57% on the first and 23% on the second). Schmiedlova now has only 1 win in last 6 matches, she had a blunder last week agianst Kucova who beat Schmiedlova the same way Hogenkamp did - through powerful strokes.

- A good match against Schmiedlova in the first round here - said Hogenkamp, who has a reason to be optimistic after that match.

Kanepi started to regain her confidence over the ITF level. After her elimination from Round 2 in Wimbledon, Kanepi played two ITF tournaments, she played one final and won the title a week afterwards. That second final was played three days before her match against Larsson here in Bastad, and Kanepi has been playing non-stop in the past month as this will be her 12th match in only 16 days. One has to wonder how much energy she has left at the moment. 

She played a difficult three-set match against Larsson and the conditions here definitely don't suit her. The sun has dried the courts and they are much slower and the ball bounces higher, which definitely doesn't work well for Kanepi. She said that herself after her win against Larsson, while her opponent added:

- In the end, I was too passive and tense. These are the matches that you just want to win and it is one of my heaviest defeats.

Larsson was up by 4-1 and 5-2 in the third set and she even had 2 match serves, but Kanepi won five consecutive games to win the match. She showed that those matches have left a mark on her and that her strokes and serve are weaker than her maximum. Larsson failed in the final stages and admitted to have brought Kanepi back into the match, but the fact stands that the Estonian didn't leave a good impression and could struggle a lot against Hogenkamp today.

Kanepi played her first match this month on July 2nd and 15 days later, she's playing her 12th match so fatigue has to take its toll. Larsson didn't know how to make use of it even though she was up by 5-2 in the third set and had two match points and she admitted that she alone let Kanepi get back into the match. Hogenkamp convincingly beat Schmiedlova here, regardless of the fact that she has struggled with her form lately (1 win in 6 matches). Hogenkamp has shown the same consistent level during her match, she was aggressive, concentrated and didn't have any huge downfalls in her performance, which cannot be said for Kanepi. The surface doesn't work to Kanepi's favor as the courts are getting dryer and dryer and the surface gets slower while the balls bounce higher and Kanepi struggles with that. Hogenkamp has had 25 wins on clay this season, she played 2 ITF finals and is coming here with the best ranking of her career after the first WTA wins this season and she has nothing to lose. Too many things speak against Kanepi for us not to bet here.
