The American left a lot better impression

Madison is playing great tennis this season and, as expected, sailed though the match with Koukalova. Jankovic took advantage of Davis' poor form to beat her in three sets with a mediocre performance

Even though she has years of experience at WTA level, Koukalova seemed lost against Keys. She was unable to find solutions for Keys powerful serving and shots to finish the match with only 5 games. The American was dominant in her service games once again to win 70% of her first service points (66% of first serve) and fire 8 aces. She managed to control the game, enforcing her style, which is fast rallies with a lot of winner, but also a lot of mistakes. 

Both players were keen on finishing the rallies as soon as possible and Keys ended up more successful at it. She was particularly impressive at second serve return, 'killing' Koukalova's slow shots. Beside, Keys proved that her second serve kick is a powerful weapon in these kind of conditions. She manage to force Koukalova at the baseline when serving and is not expected to give Jankovic a lot of opportunities in her service game.

Jankovic beat Davis in three sets the last round. It was a match in which spectators saw a lot of fight and a lot of dedication on both ends of the net. But they couldn't see very good-quality tennis. It is truly amazing that neither player managed to win more than 30% of second service points. On top of that, they finished with 17 double faults, which only goes to prove how nervous they were. Luckily for Jankovic, Lauren got lost early in the second set and won only 3 points in the opening 5 games. Jelena didn't play particularly well, she made too many mistakes and rarely found solutions in longer rallies. Still, she used 8 out of the 11 break points and that in the end decided the match.

When taking into consideration everything they did in the second round, we conclude that the American player left a much better impression. Her service was impressive but rallies in which she fired winners as well. Jankovic is too vulnerable at second serve and Keys will take advantage of that. She should record another convincing straight sets win. 

Jelena got lucky in the second round. Davis was a favorable draw, she has been doing badly lately and did the same against Jankovic. She won the first set and then won only three points in the opening five games of the second set. Jelena played a match she would like to forget soon as well, playing particularly badly after the second serve. That is why I'm going with the handicap at Keys today. She has great first serve, won 70% of first serve points, but she did great in the second serve as well. That kick serve she used will be a mighty weapon against Jankovic and I don't believe Keys will lose any service games here. Also, her game in the rallies is much better than Jankovic's. The Serbian has been out of shape for a while now, she has not solution for Keys powerful shots, especially in these kind of conditions where the ball bounces higher, giving Keys more than enough time to prepare a good shot.
