Aalborg hope for their fans' support in yet another regional derby match

Aalborg struggle with scoring home. The visiting team's strong point is their defense

Aalborg couldn't break well organized and more or less defense oriented Aarhus in the derby match last weekend. It was their third draw in the fifth home match this season. Scoring is their biggest problem in home matches - they have a 5-3 goal difference in five matches, while they managed to score nine goals in the five matches away. Their opponent's main characteristic is tough defense. 

- Viborg deservedly hold third position and they proved to be the biggest surprise this season. Their defense is their strong point. They are well organized, have a clear game style, and manage to score a lot of goals on account of fast transition and active involvement. That will take a lot of patience on our part and good game if we want to create scoring attempts. At the same time, we have to be ready for their fast breaks and we have to be careful in set pieces. We'll do our best to stay invincible home and we believe our fans will help us with it - said home team's coach Nielsen.


Viborg is closer to Aalborg than any other team in the league geographically, and even though there isn't as much rivalry here as in the match between Aalborg and Aarhus, 8,000 tickets were sold one day before the match.

Home team have no injured players, only forward Jonsson is under the question mark. He scored once in the three matches he played since joining the club.

Vibor couldn't do as well in the Cup as they did in the Superleague (seven points won in three matches), they were knocked out by a second division team Lyngby (0-1). Speculations that the team weren't at 100% in the match on purpose to clear out their schedule were quickly ruled out by captain Rask:

- Of course we weren't happy with how we played. We were upset for the first two day with the defeat. The best way to forget about that match is by winning the next one. We want to win every match and we're sad we lost in the Cup. But, Lyngby are a good team and we weren't at our best. But, I'll admit, given out situation, it's better to do badly against Lyngby than against Aalborg.

Rask believes his team can start winning again if they play like they used to in the championship:

- We have to stick to our strong points, fight and stay organized. Three matches without conceding a goal gave us confidence in defense and we believe we can stop Aalborg from scoring, or at least limit them to one goal. We will then score at least one as well and walk away with points.

The visiting team can't count on defender Egeris and young forward Grønning.

We should expect, and the previews from the guests confirm it, that Viborg's main goal in the derby will be to defend their goal and than try to endanger Aalborg through swift counterattacks. They have been successful in away matches and have only been defeated, convincingly, by Odense, while this recipe brought them good results in four matches. In these matches, if we do not count the OB, they received only one goal and have managed to withstand the attacks form Nordsjaelland, Aarhus, Sonderjyske and Midtjylland. Aalborg has problems with the offence, they did not find the right replacement for Helenius (transferred to Aston Villa last summer) and this can be seen on their home turf where they scored just five goals in five matches. If Viborg plays as Aarhus did in the last leg, which they can do, the host will have a hard time getting through them. But on the other side, AaB does not receive a lot of goals at home, only three in the last five matches. I expect another difficult match.
