Mons want their first win in the championship

The match against Waasland-Beveren will probably be a decisive one for the coahc Scifo and in case Mons does not score three points it is hard to believe that he will keep his current place

Mons played 1-1 at their home field against Cercle Brugge at the very start of the championship and that is the only point the players of Enzo Scifo won this season. After that, five losses in a row followed. Mons haven't scored a goal in the last three matches. They are deservedly at the last place on the table.

In their last league match Mons was defeated in a visiting match at Gent 0-1. The only goal was scored by a home striker Pedersen out of a penalty kick in the 30th minute. Seeing that the center-half Lorenzi was sent off in the 54th minute (2nd yellow card) Mons wasn't able to do anything else but lose minimally with one player less in the field.

Meanwhile Mons played a friendly away match against the French second-league team Lens and lost 0-1.

The match against Waasland-Beveren will probably be a decisive one for the career of the coach Scifo and in case Mons does not win all three points it is hard to believe he will stay in his current employment. Despite that, Scifo shows no signs of nervousness and has confidence in his team while the players don't question his coaching abilities.

Before the match against Waasland-Beveren midfielder Matthys said:

 - We are in a situation in which we play only for all three points. This match has great significance for us.

For the match against Wassland-Beveren Scifo cannot coumnt on the injured striker De Belder and centre-half Lorenzi who is suspended over a red card.

Waasland-Beveren played the first three matches of the championship tied and after that recorded three losses in the next three matches. With three points they are currently at 14th place in the championship In the last four matches Beveren scored only one goal. In the last ten championship matches Beveren hasn't scored a win.

The last championship game Beveren lost at home against Club Brugge (1-2). At the very start of the game the host loses the ball at the center of the field and Lestienne punishes the recklessness of the host from a quick counter offensive. Club Brugge increases the score to 2-0 in the 56th minute after an excellent action and an even better kick and a goal by Jorgensen. Midfielder Blondelle scores a consolation goal for the hosts in the last minute of extra time. In 76th minute the striker of the hosts Oumarou was sent off after a rough foul.

 - We are on the right track - said coach De Boeck after the match.

 - I think that the better team lost, but Club was deadly and efficient. If it wasn't for our unfairly void goal for 1-1 it would be a whole different story. We even had more chances when we were left with ten players. We deserved at least a point.

Coach De Boeck criticized  the weak physical form of some of the players because they missed the basic preparations during the summer months. That is primarily a concern of players in the midfield: Rowell, Godemeche and Maman.

Center-halfs Belhocine and Gershon are injured and will not appear against Mons. Midfielder Maman is celebrating Yom Kippur, the most important Jewish holiday so he is not on the list of players to appear at Saturday. The striker Oumaru is serving his first penalty match over a red card in the last round.

Mons placed seventh in the league last year. This season they are posting poor results, although the team has not changed much. Mons lacked a bit of luck in some matches, and one must admit they had a pretty unfavorable schedule, playing mostly against teams from the upper part of the ladder.
I think Mons has a good team, and that Scifo is a good coach. I believe they will get going and leave the bottom of the league table soon. I consider them much better than Beveren, and think they will win three points today. If they can't beat Waasland-Beveren, who can they beat?
Beveren is also without a single win so far, on a three game losing streak.
