Totti leading Roma at San Siro

Roma's captain has fully recovered from his injury and will be one of the main forwards for his team at San Siro against the only Italian team left in the Champions League

Milan are extremely poor in the league, but their draw against Ajax last Wednesday made them the only Italian team in the Champions League round of 16. It was a game in which Milan suffered a lot as they lost Montolivo very early in the game and created almost no serious chances against the Dutch, but on the other hand, it was important for them not to concede a goal and they succeeded in that. After reaching their European goal, Milan have to focus on the league in which they have a huge 17-point gap behind the third-placed Napoli who have the last Champions League spot for next season. The real test of Milan's abilities will be the game against the second-placed Roma.

The disputed Allegri should have taken over Roma last summer:

- Some other clubs approached me but I am not sorry I didn't change the environment as I am very happy to be in Milan and to be able to finish my work here. I have to compliment Rma for building a technically and physically very powerful team with a coach that has automatically adapted to the Italian football. They concede very few goals and this is a strong indicator why they are almost at the top of the table. They are strong and if they get the lead it's very difficult to get back into the game. Apart from Totti, they get the best out of De Rossi while Gervinho has been a quality reinforcement. Ljajić and Destro are very promising and all in all, Roma are a tough opposition.

The injury problems have been Milan's constant this season. Allegri has called up 21 players for the game against Roma and the list does not excluded the injured keeper Amelia, center-back Silvestre, full-backs Abate and Constant, midfielder Birsa and forwards Robinho and El Shaarawy. Pazzini is among the candidates for today after his long absence, as is Emanuelson who has been training with lower intensity lately.

Milan's coach Allegri says he doesn't regret not taking over Roma this summer, but Roma are much less regretful about him as Rudi Garcia has proved to be a great solution as a coach. After the record start of the season, Garcia's team got several draws but they ended that run in the last round having beaten Fiorentina. It was a great game with chances on both ends, which is nothing strange considering these are two technically very gifted teams.

Roma are facing the away game against Milan and a home one against Catania that they will end this year with, but they have an away game against Juventus in the first week of the new year and Garcia has to look for all 6 points in the upcoming two games. 

He spoke about Milan with respect:

- We all know Balotelli and Kaka are two great players. Mario can score in every game while I like Ricky as he is a complete player. We have to give our best to ensure these two players don't get enough space but Milan is more than just the two of them. I know it's difficult playing at their stadium but as we usually do, we are going to Milano for a win. It will be tough but that's our ambition.

The away coach brought 23 players to Milano and the group does not include the suspended midfielder Pjanić who will be replaced by Bradley. The recovered club captain Totti is coming back to the tip of their attack with Gervinho and Florenzi expected to start alongside him. Apart from Pjanić, Garcia cannot count on full-back Balzaretti and forwards Caprari and Borriello.

Milan are playing at San Siro and are by default considered as the favorites against all of their Italian opponents. But this is a clear case of Roma being underestimated as they are the only undefeated team in Serie A, a team playing great football and a team who broke Juventus's run of consecutive defeats, and a team who got their captain Totti back. On the other hand, Milan are unconvincing and were very lucky to reach the Round of 16 in the CL. Milan have been having injury problems throughout the season and this is the case now too and now they have a very tiring game against Ajax behind them. The odds on Roma are absolutely high and it's absolutely worth going for one of the options on Totti and his boys.
