Torino - Parma (1:1)

A direct clash for the sixth spot and Europe

  • Published:

Torino and Parma have their own fate in their hands and are both lo0oking for a victory in this match

Yesterday brought very good news for the players and supporters of Torino and Parma, as their direct competitors for the sixth position, Verona and Lazio, dropped points. This means that the winner of this match can make the key step towards the position that leads them to the European league next season, although we must point out that Milan are also waiting for their chance. Torino are a point ahead of their competitors, waiting to meet Parma in their Olimpic, with their last round match against the unmotivated Fiorentina, and have been playing great lately. Ventura's team have scored six victories in their last eight matches, and the only place the three points eluded them were the away games in Rome. Toma took all three points against them, and Lazio stole one in the final moments of the game.

Forwards Immobile and Cerci are wanted by big European teams, but team captain Glik said everyone is focused solely on football:

-We have to keep our mind only on what we're doing on the field. We know we'll be going to Europe if we win both games. Milan don't have an easy schedule with games against Atalanta and Sassuolo, but let Milan think about their affairs, we'll think of ours.

For Ventura, the most important thing is that forward Cerci recovered from a minor injury and will be ready to start next to the best scorer of the league, Immobile. The Torino coach has no other absences to worry him, which still leaves backs Pasquale and Masiello, and very good midfielders Farnerud and Bash, who have injury problems.

Parma have not known a defeat in 17 games, and everything pointed towards a celebratory 100 years jubilee with a comeback to European competition, but their latest results have not been kind to Donadoni's team, as they won only twice in their last eight matches. Last week Parma against Sampdoria they awoke their supporter's hope of winning sixth position at the end of this season, but to get there they need to beat their direct rivals Torino and the written off Livorno at their Tardini arena.

Donadoni wants all three points in Turin:
- We're going there to win, but we know this will be an emotionally draining game, and the key will begetting energy again. We've got a high level season behind us, which spent a lot of our strength. One thing is certain, we're hugely motivated in this game that can bring us the big possibility called the Euroleague.

The away team have no significant issues with absences as the only ones Donadoni cannot count on are long absent offense players Vergara and Pozzi, as well as center back Felipe, who is on a three game suspension after a fight in the Cagliari match. Felipe got a chance to play only because Donadoni could not use his best defender Paletta. Schelotto and Amauri had minor injury issues during the week, and the only question regarding the Parma starting eleven is which of the two of them will start along Biabiany and Cassano.

Torino are a point ahead of the competition in the battle for the sixth position leading to the European league, but Parma could get that same position with a win. Although Torino have been playing great lately, and have a great streak of success, I still see this as underestimating Donadoni's team, as this is an even match in which both teams have an even chance. Torino look great carried by Cerci and the league's top scorer Immobile, but in other segments they are no match to Parma, who would be OK with Torino attacking so they can threaten them with counterattacks through Biabiany, Schelotto and Cassano. Unlike the home team, they have no absences, and as both teams need a win, I think Parma should be covered.
