Magdeburg are still quite weakened

To win against Kiel with a reserve team was sensational but sensations don't happen every day. Today they again have to play without many players and Lübbecke play better and better with only one loss in the last five rounds. How much can Magdeburg do today?

Magdeburg scored 36 goals against Emsdetten and 34 against Kiel  in the last two rounds and the win against Kiel (34-31) was dubbed "historical". The win against Kiel was not as surprising as the way it was done. Magdeburg were playing without Bezjak, Haaß, Rojewski, Grafenhorst, Onet..., all of them standard and crucial players. Natek had a flu and he couldn't wait for the match to end so he can go back to bed. They played the first seven with Musche on the left wing, Janka on middle back, Harfiel on right back..., all of them young and unknown players who had only 6 technical faults in 60 minutes against the champions of Germany.

It was a perfect evening with a perfect win which was marked the most by the left back Stefan Kneer with 9 goals. He was the only player that Kiel, against Magdeburg in this edition, should have stopped but they failed to do so.

 - Too bad they don't give 4 points for wins like these - commented Kneer, but he knows himself that will not last long, the season moves on and Kiel have terribly underestimated them, playing a tragic defense and that is why they had a debacle.

 - Today's match has a mentally different starting point - said the coach Frank Carstens, aware that the cards are shuffled for today and Magdeburg are favorites now. However they didn't manage to do well in that role this season.

 - Lübbecke are simply good, they invest a lot in their pace.

Luckily for Magdeburg, they have some good news too, like the return of the middle back Michael Haaß.

 - Lübbecke have more players at their disposal, that is their advantage. The additional boost is their win in the local derby against Minden. They are coming with a lot of self-confidence. We are ready for that. We filled with confidence ourselves after Kiel - are the words of the experienced Haaß who is also important for the defense and he will probably take the role of the first middle back from Janka.

Marko Bezjak will be out longer because of his knee, there is no Onet, Grafenhorst and Rojewski and the appearance of the chief of defense Kjell Landsberg is uncertain. He was having a medical check in Düsseldorf on Monday.

Magdeburg will again put a lot on the young players and it will be interesting to see whether they can repeat their performance against Kiel.

Lübbecke are a very experienced team with Pajovic, who was in Magdeburg last season, Vukovic, Loke, Blazicko, Niemeyer... In the 61st local derby at Minden they dominated in the first half (15-13) and then were behind 20-16 in the 40th minute to manage to win after all with the goal by Remer about 15 seconds before the end. In the las five rounds they lost only at home against Flensburg and even then they had the 16-13 lead. They are playing better and better. Dirk Beucher, last season coach of Lemg, is doing an excellent job.

 - They have a strong 6-0 defense and we have to be especially aware of Stefan Kneer and pivot Bartosz Jurecki (in the photo). Win? Anything is possible, we are ready. Last season we got a draw at their base.

The coach Beuchler points out what they need to be careful of:

 - We cannot allow them the first and second wave of the attack, that is where both wings Weber and Musche are great. We need peace and security.

They can count on all of the players except for the left back Arne Niemeyer and Pajovic plays a lot in the offense because of his absence. All other players are at disposal.

 - We respect Magdeburg, but we are not at all afraid of them - said Buechler who is looking for the third consecutive away win after Gummersbach and Minden.

Magdeburg are prone to oscillations and blunders against weaker teams. That way they lost against Lemgo at home and then won against Kiel. They played against Kiel without 5 or 6 extremely important players, they played an almost perfect match with only 6 technical faults. I am convinced they cannot repeat that today. Lübbecke are not a harmless rival, they lost only one match in the last five rounds and they can play against Magdeburg the way they are now. Last season they took one point here and now I have to give them this spread. You don't win with 4 goals difference in Bundesliga that easily.
