Tremblay - Dunkerque (26:30)

Tremblay want to play in Europe

  • Published:

The team from Paris did a good job this summer, made good purchases and once they start functioning together, they could pose a threat for everyone. Dunkerque are a runner-up, but start the season without left back Siakam

All of you who've been following the French championship last year know what was being announced last year in Tremblay. This is one of those last year's statements by their president Pascal Papillon:

- Our goal is Top 5 or 6.

It didn't go as planned, they were saving themselves a few times in the very end. Few months later, their president says:

We want to play in Europe and to do so we have to finish in position 5 or 6.

Why is the president expecting that a team who did badly last year to play in Europe? Six players left, six joined. Middle back Guillard, right back Warght, and goalkeeper Pocuca left and they were important players. Peyrabouta, Poulina and Ugolina left as well but they were not so important. They have the right to optimism because players who joined are much better than the ones who left. Serbian goalkeeper Gajic came from Velenje, right back Bosquet from Dunkerwue, middle back Ternel from Cesson, great left wing Boughanmi and line man Chouiref from CA Tunis, and left back Raul Nanter from Admar Leon.

When it comes to new players, a bit less important is middle back Brasseleur ('93) who came from the junior team. We have to see how much he will actually play next to the others.

Other important part of the team last year are goalkeeper Malina, right wing Drouhin, middle back Crepain, left wing Bingo, left back Tuzolana, line man Rémi Salou, right back Ibrahima Salla, and left back Teddy Prat. Tremblay has a lot of players at their disposal now and quality as well, so we have to agree with president Pappillon - top positions on the table are expected. They have the same coach like the last season - Stephane Imbratta.

President Papillon even spent some time during the preparation period with the team to feel the atmosphere.

We have to stay modest and realistic. We weren't like that the last two seasons - says Imbratta.

The two Tunisians want to prove themselves, Gajic will be the goalkeeper, and the whole season will depend greatly on right back Bosquet who didn't play much last year due to a rift with Dunkerque. They can choose the middle back between Ternel, Ostarcević, and Crepain, Ostarcević being the best in defense, while Nantes will probably take over left back position.

-Of course this is not a match of the year for me, but it will be special. After this one, we still have 25 matches to go. The important thing is a good start, and to win home - says Bosquet who's first match will be against his old club.

- We have six new players on the team, it will take time before they learn how to work together

That didn't happen yet which was clear in the preparation period matches, especially when they lost against Sélestata and Cesson.

Some preparation matches results: Sélestat 26-28, Billére 28-25, Ivry 24-18, Cesson 22-38, Créteil 29-27, Massy 34-35.

We talked about Dunkerque last week, before and during Supercup in Tunisia. Patric Cazal's team beat Montpellier junior team first 32-33, and then lost to Chambery 23-21, and Chambery played without the Gille brothers, Bicanic and N'Guessan.

Dunkerque played without back Nagy, Siakam, and Rambo. Nagy and Siakam will play today, but Rambo broke his arm and won't play for a few months. Cazal was not happy with their game in Tunisia and today is the beginning of their first Champions League season.

- I am more concerned than excited. I'm sure we're good, but we have to play better. Many matches are before us, and we didn't always seem fresh - said coach Cazal.

- Everyone's talking about Champions League, but our priority is still French championship. We have a good team, but we also need luck to keep us away from injuries.

There were only minor changes in the team. Bosquet left, but he almost didn't even play, middle back Guillardo came from Tremblay, and Cazal expects him to strengthen the defense.

Nagy and Lamon are offense middle backs, Hansen is left, Rambo and Soudry right. Touti and Emonet are strong left and Joli right wing.

- We know the matches will be tough, especially against Tremblay. Tremblay made the best purchases during the summer, except for PSG - they bought Narcisse and Vori- says capatian Mokrani.

I don't normally bet on this sort of thing, but here it really deserves a minimum bet. I've said it all in my previous forecast, Tremblay should be followed up for high odds on them not losing the game.

The first round is always difficult, Chambery lost in Rennes, PSG did not win in Tolouse, St Raphaël played an even closing of the game with rookie Nimes... The vice champion Dunkerque are opening their season in Paris, and I think they will not have it any easier than the previously mentioned favorites. On the contrary. They have scored a win on Tremblay home court only once in the last five seasons, by 26-25. Last season, in tune and with a full roster, with Bosquet and Siakama, they lost 28-25. Today Bosquet is the first right back of Tremblay and Siakama is seriously injured. Tremblay is significantly stronger. Apart from Bosquet, they brought in Nantes from Ademar Leon, goalkeeper Gajic from Velenje, Tunisian national team wing Boughanmi, and are rightfully shooting at a spot among the top five. It did not look so good in the preparations, so I will not push the bet, but this handicap is practically good for a maximum bet. If Dunkerque even manages to win this, they would have to do something unseen to get a 4 goal lead.
