To make things worse, they are playing against Lokomotiv today, one of the best defensive teams in the league against whom they haven't scored more than a goal in the past 2 seasons. The club from Niznekamsk have a run of 8 away defeats

The 6-game away tour was pretty successful for Lokomotiv who are slowly securing their play-off spot, but playing at home is always the best thing for any team. The return home brought them new three points, good performance and satisfaction.

A notable progress in offense was visible in their recent game, and they had good players but coach Vorobyov wasn't using them the right way. Before today's game, the beat Ufa even though the away team got more shots. That's Lokomotiv's main trait, they can repel the attacks and they have a great goalie Sanford who got 95 % saves this time. Petrov and Averin gave them the lead and the lead was later confirmed by Musakov and Kraskovsky  for convincing win by Jaroslav who have a solid opportunity of getting some points today.

- The fact that we are in the play-off zone does not mean we've reached the play-offs. Every win is important for us now. We have been trying to work on our offense lately, to change something - said Peter Vorobyov, Lokomotiv's coach.

They are the best defense in the league, they concede only 1.88 goals per game and combined with their great goalie and good box-play, this means they are the toughest team to score against or even to create a chance against. Their offense is also waking up and it's a good sign, and if they had offense like some of the top teams, they would surely be a candidate for the title, and now with Plotnikov and Averin in the main roles, they are also waiting for their chance.

Considering their current form, that is, their huge offensive problems, Neftekhimik could not have gotten a more difficult opponent. The team from Niznekamsk hasn't scored a goal in the past 3 games and they have not scored in the last 231 minutes. What's particularly worrying for them is that this is not the worst fact. An even more disastrous information is that they are the weakest away team in the Eastern Conference who lost their last 8 away games. This season they score 1,44 goals on average in away games and 1,5 in the last 10 rounds.

On Wednesday, Severstal scored a goal in the fifth minute in Cherepovets, but it turned out it would be enough to take 3 points. Neftekhimik were completely clueless up front. They had 19 shots, 10 less than their opponents. 

- It's impossible to win if you score zero goals...That's all I can say - said coach Dmitrij Balmin who is under increasing pressure as the play-offs are further and further away.

To make things worse, they've lost all their games against Lokomotiv in the past two season and they haven't score more than a single goal in those games.

Considering that their injury list includes important forwards Petr Koukal and Jegor Milovzorov and that they sacked three players and that their youth prospect Bogdan Jakimov is taking part in preparations for the World Cup with the junior team, it's easy to see they're in for a tough one here. We should also add that they let one of their best forwards, Oskar Osala, to leave for Magnitka. All of this seems like the board has given up.

This is not the end of absences as their best defenseman Renat Mamašev has injured his back and he should be back after the international break like Koukal and Milovzorov. Their experienced defender Vitalij Šulakov is also out of action.

Lokomotiv Jaroslav have four handicap wins in a row and they are facing Nižnemaksk who have 8 consecutive defeats in away games and they haven't scored for three games. Lokomotiv are the best defense in the league and Nižnemaksk will have a tough job scoring more than one goal here, perhaps even the one, and on the other hand, Jaroslav's offense is on the up and Averin and Plotnikov are waiting for a new customer. In addition, Nižnemaksk are slowly giving up and have let one of their best players, Osala, leave for Magnitka plus they have five absent players. Two important defenders are out, their best defenseman and another experienced defender, while their motivation can't be too high either. Lokomotiv have to defend their eighth spot in the battle for the play-offs, they have no margin for error and I see this as a great bet. Lokomotiv have won the last 3 games, Nižnemaksk haven't scored more than one goal in either of them and I see them suffering a convincing defeat here as the home team have more quality and motivation by far.
