Barcelona - Anaitasuna (34:23)

No mercy from Barcelona in Blaugrana

  • Published:

Anaitasuna usually get points hard in away matches, and now they are tired and face an opponent strong like this; they can only hope they do not lose by a huge margin

After they let the opponent know who is the current ruler of Spanish handball on Tuesday in the regional derby, and remained the only undefeated team after beating Granollers and became the lone leader in the championship. They furiously played against Metalurg, until then the only team in their group of the Champions League which had maximum performance. For the weekend, there is an upcoming match in the Champions League against PSG, and in the meantime, they have to play against Anaitasuna in the national championship.

Big wins last week (20-34 against Granollers and 35-17 against Metalurg) indicate that Barcelona are in top shape and that they are coordinated, have a strong defense, quick transitions with many easy goals, they seem flawless. Pascual's constant rotations accomplish that the substitutions are unnoticeable on the court and they are all ready at the same time and want to play and prove themselves.

It is certain that Rutenko will not play today again like against Metalurg because of his back problem. They want to have him for the duel with the French. It is unknown which two will join him on the stands and Balaguer and Kasal will probably be in the line up again.

Just like all the teams this season, Anaitasuna are coming to Barcelona to try to present themselves the best they can and try to resist one of the best teams in the world, which is the reigning champion of Spain and runner-up in the Champions League and also the leader in the championship, with dignity. The main goal is to try to lose with a small margin even though it was shown that this season in Blaugrana a team can rarely leave without less than ten goals difference, actually no one has done it yet (Metalurg -18, Puente Genil -16, Wacker Thun -19, Ademar -14, Ciudad Encantada -20) so it is going to be interesting to see what Anaitasuna can do.

The situation is probably like this: the coach understands there is no point in resisting the inevitable so he pulls out the main players so they can rest for other matches, and sends out young players from the juniors or the ones who do not play a lot usually.

Apart from that, Anaitasuna generally have a lot of trouble playing outside of Pamplona; so far they had one draw in Valladolid and two losses in Cangas and Puerto Sagunto. The away team's coach, Etxaburu said that this is a match every team in the championship must go through, against a superior opponent. However, his greater concern is that several players are complaining about fatigue from the last three matches in one week, and today's match comes after almost 48 hours since the last one, so it is going to be even harder to resist someone like Barcelona.

Though the margin might seem high at first glance, Barcelona are a grinding machine this season. The very long bench at Pascual's disposal allows him to keep up the same rhythm throughout the game, which is way more than their opponents can handle. Nobody left Blaugrana with less than -14 this season, and Metalurg got sent off with -18 the other day, something Cavar probably never had happen to one of his teams. As with most teams in the league, Anaitasuna will not give their maximum in this game, well aware it is better to preserve their strength for the coming challenges. They played a tough game two days ago, and it can be expected that they will not be able to hold off Barcelona, who will be able to punish the slightest mistake in their technique. Encantada played -20 here, Genil -16, with -18 mid second half. I expect another whooping.
