In order to win, Paris will have to find a cure against hosts' hard defense

In the first round, Roanne was close to winning an away game against one of the championship favorites. On the other hand, Paris completely failed and a reaction is expected today from their leaders

Roanne played their first game as expected. Their very hard defense gave them opportunity to defeat Gravelines on their home court, but Luka Pavicevic's players failed to inflict the ending strike. They returned home with a minimal loss, which must've left a bitter taste, but the overall impression was still good. Roanne showed that everyone will have a hard time playing against them because of their playing style.

It's interesting to note that Roanne dominated in rebounds, but failed to capitalize on that. None of Roanne players scored more than 10 points, it was obvious that Gradit and Samnick were given the most time, but for 24 shots combined, they only achieved 12 points. Gradit was especially modest with three pointers (1/6). If he had a better night, Roanne could've start the season better.

Today there's a chance to win points with playing well. It won't be simple, since another team wanting to make amends is visiting.

- We have a pretty equal team, there's no big starts nor differences among players. Generally speaking, we have a team of which results in ProA can be expected. On Saturday against Gravelines we showed we're not far behind. In such games, that are decided by a point or two, the audience makes the difference. We want our fans to make 2 or 3 points in each game, starting with Saturday - said president Pillet.

The convincing win in the Supercup, Paris Levallois announced they're ready for great things. At the season opener, before their fans, another win was expected to boost the confidence, but the unpleasant Le Mans revealed all weaknesses in their game. Such hard defeat of Beugnot's players not even the greatest Le Mans optimists could hope for. However, it's certainly better this happened at the beginning of the season when there's still enough time for correction.

- We weren't aggressive in any segment. This is not an alarming defeat, but it is surprising - said Beugnot.

- After tonight there's not much to say. Le Man played well, but we beat ourselves. Defeat is never nice, but there's still 29 games ahead - added Nicolas Long.

A particularly bad game played those who were expected to excel, first point guard Andrew Albicy (one point, 0/6 in game), Lang (six points, 2/7) and May (six points, 3/8). Those who deserve a passing grade are the newcomer Ewing (13 points, 5/10) and Anagonye (12 points, 4/8). Their good shape is surely a reason for optimism, because the leaders are expected not to play so bad again.

Some kind of reaction and significantly better game is expected from Paris today. The opponent is not pleasant and Paris will have to rise the level of aggression if they want to deal with hard hosts. Last season, Paris didn't do well, they lost both championship games against each other, and achieved no more than 71 points in both games. Their offensive play will be important today as well, defense is the segment that brings successes to Roanne.

I think that Paris will be judged here based on their convincing defeat in the first game. However, the fact is that the club from the French capital has put together a respectable rooster this season who will have a lot to say. A disastrous defeat against Le Mans on their home court will introduce a massive mobilization in their ranks and we can expect that they will be fully motivated to redeem themselves. Although this is a beginning of the season, there was a lot of talk about Roanne. Their style is well known, everything is based on very solid defense which is the result of the philosophy promoted by coach Pavicevic. They have let their opponents score the least points in the regular part last season, but they have scored on the average little bit more than 72 points per game (fifth weakest offense of the league). They went over this margin only twice during pre-season games when they played against weaker opponents, while they scored only 64 points in the away game against Gravelines. Paris has also played well during the pre-season and conceded more than 77 points to Besiktas (80) a to fast Pau Orthez (89). They have demonstrated their power in respect to this when they left Strasbourg at 68 points and Nanterre at 72 points in Supercup. I expect that the game will be decided by smaller numbers and since I think that Paris is underestimated I have opted for the under of the host.
