ASVEL want to end the negative streak at the start of the season

Although they are missing Pellin and Hill, so far it has no effect on the performance of Orleans

ASVEL and Orleans enter this match in opposite moods. While ASVEL started the season with two losses, Orleans are entering it with maximum efficiency.

After opening the championship with two losses, ASVEL weren't successful at the start of the Eurocup either. After first three equal periods in the away match at Ulm, ASVEL faltered in the final period. The key to the loss is definitely defense. ASVEL conceded 33 points in the last ten minutes.

 - Our biggest problem was defending their transition. We allowed too many easy points to them. That gave them confidence to score difficult shots. We were too emotional and we couldn't control our game - said coach Pierre Vincent after the match.

The loss in Germany only created additional pressure for the match today. ASVEL have great ambitions in the championship and a new loss would bring significant unrest in the locker room. The opponents are not simple at all.

 - We need to stop looking back and turn around to look forward. We are all equally responsible for this situation, we all make bad decisions and make mistakes. Against Ulm it wasn't perfect, especially not defensively, but we had a better passage of the ball - said Georgij Joseph.

Although the club sympathizers were fearing the start of the season, Orleans started it with two wins. The absence of Pellin and Hill in the first part is a big handicap but so far it is has no effect. After an away win at Chalon, they confirmed their good performance against Le Havre as well.

It wasn't simple. Orleans were on the brink of a defeat but Aldo Curti took the match to overtime with a three-pointer in the last second and then brought his team to victory. Le Havre offered a quite strong resistance but they were one step too far. With 18 points (6/9 field goals) Curti was the second best scorer of his team, just behind McAlarney (22 points).

 - I didn't have much choice - commented Curti about the decisive shot.

 - I thank him for the entire second half, not just that shot. We need to thank Kyle (McAlarney, a/n) as well; without them it would be very difficult for us - added the coach Philippe Herve.

After an excellent start of the season, the pressure for today's match is a lot lower. The home team are the ones to whom the win is an imperative and Orleans will try to use that to their advantage. It will be easier for them to reach a positive result because Darnell Harris will play for the first time, a player who came to the team after Hill's injury. As well as Pellin, he will be missing for a while, but the rest of the team are so far making up for the absence of the two players whose importance was discussed in the competition preview.

ASVEL's home arena was a fort difficult to break in the previous season and this season it already fell once, but against strong Strasbourg. The filled Astroballe will try to take Vincent's players to their first success this season which would definitely remove the pressure from them ahead of the remainder of the season. There is no doubt about ASVEL's quality but the starting losses brought insecurity in their play. Orleans will try to use that.

ASVEL lost only two home games in regular time last season. Astroballe was a very tough fortress to conquer, and only fell vs Strasbourg this season, but they are probably the strongest French team at the moment. ASVEL were still not without their chances, they only lost in the final seconds. In the away game vs Pau Orthez they also suffered a close defeat in the final moments of the game, after extra time. Though they did not manage to end the black series in Germany either, Vincent points out that he saw improvement in their game. A reaction is expected today, as despite their two initial victories Orleans have not been very impressive so far, especially on the offense. They beat Chalon thanks to a disastrous evening their opponents had, but scored only 67 points, while they snatched a home victory vs Le Havre by scoring a last second three pointer, courtesy of Curti (71 points in regular time). The absence of Pellin and Hill is felt on offense, and it remains to see how much Hinson can contribute, but the impression is they are very reliant on perimeter shots (64 three point attempts in two games). ASVEL will be fully motivated today, carried by the support of their fans and will not allow open shots. Jackson has been constant, scoring at least 23 points in all three games, but the game vs Ulm gave better performances among the other players who usually carry the team. The home team are somewhat energized, but there is no panic or nervousness among the players. It seems they are ready to respond and finally play a great match.
