ASVEL will try to make up for their debacle in Ljubljana against the best defense in the leaugue

ASVEL have suffered a humiliating defeat in Ljubljana, having been frozen to -38 and getting a new slap in the face. The situation in the first half went into Olimpija's favor, while ASVEL suffered a complete breakdown in the third period which they lost by 29-8. The difference only increased until the end and all offensive stats were disastrous. The only player that did alright was Joseph who got 11 points (5/8).


ASVEL's offense has been pretty inert in the last few games, ever since the great win against Valencia. They haven't scored over 70 points in their following 4 games and their average is 59 points per game. This is a disastrous introduction before hosting one of the best defenses in the league.

Roanne have continued playing like they did last season with some success. The best defense in the league still hasn't conceded over 74 points this season and their average is 67,1 points per game. However, their offensive efficiency has often been far too week and has cost them the success in some previous games. Pavićević's players finally showed their real face in offense  against Le Havre and the final +10 does not reflect the difference in quality that was visible during the game. Today's game is very important for both teams. In addition to the fact that both teams have a modest 3-5 score, ASVEL are highly motivated to wash the bitter taste of their game in Ljubljana. They want to redeem themselves in front of their fans but they are aware what they are up against. They will need to buckle up and show some commitment during all 40 minutes to win against Roanne. Sangare probably knows the situation in both teams the best, since he is playing for Roanne having spent over 200 games or ASVEL.

- ASVEL have a good team, and little by little, they are finding their game. They have the time on their side and with the experience they have, I'm sure they'll end up in Top 8  - said Sangare and added a few words about his team's efficiency so far:

- All the games that we've lost were lost by a narrow margin. Truth be told, we could have had 3 more wins so I'm not concerned about the future. The win against Le Havre was important to regain our confidence. Our game is based on defense, we want to stop the opposition from creating their fast game and limit them to 60 or 65 points. Once we establish that, the offense will get better. Rebounds are crucial for our games, we have a good defense, we defend for 24 second but if we give our opponents 10 additional attacks, it's hard to win.

Sangare also expressed his expectations for today's game.

- Last season we won at Astroballe so they won't take us lightly now. This will be a tough battle, we'll leave our friendship aside for these 40 minutes.

ASVEL have suffered only 3 defeats at home last season, one against Roanne. We saw a tough and even game then in which the winner was decided in the end-game. We can expect something similar today. ASVEL have put more emphasis on defense this season, and after their debacle in Slovenia their commitment should be at the top level. These teams have played 2 games early in the pre-season. ASVEL won 1 game by 92-66 and the other by 72-66. I don't expect them to dominate again, as Roanne will want to slow down the pace as much as possible and pressure their defense.

Today, we are expecting a huge battle for every point. This is the philosophy of both teams and considering this is a derby and that both teams have 3-5 score, I don't think this will be a beauty. Roanne's games end in 134 points on average while ASVEL's games end is somewhat higher figures, but they are regularly low-scoring affairs against defensively-minded teams (Olimpija 64-56 and 48-86, Nancy 59-60, Gravelines 69-64). Vincent was very angry at their approach in Ljubljana and he will be at the top today. We should see real guerrilla warfare here and a game with a maximum of 135-140 points.
